Whining

OK guys so I just got done replacing my power steering pump because I have no power steering. The steering is now awesome so much more fun to drive now. My only question is the car is still whining. Just like it was before. And to me it sounds like a power steering line but I’m assuming at this point it’s not because it’s got the new pump and both new gaskets. Anybody else have the same problem? Thanks guys I really appreciate it

Also forgot to say that the whining goes up and down with the RPMs and not with the steering. Now that I’ve done a little research it seems like I may be looking at idle or, tensioner, or alternator bearings in the pulleys. It is definitely not the normal power steering noise I’ve heard through videos on these cars and he’s definitely not a belt squeal. It is just a whining.

Probably bearings in the alternator gone bad. I dont know if its just a coincidence or what... but the last time i replaced my PS pump, my alternator failed shortly after as well with a whine.

Probably same whining on the right side of engine in my TL. After researching the forum my bet was also alternator. However I dropped by my mechanic - he listened to the whining via stethoscope and said it is probably not the alternator but one of the rollers. He is going to work on it on Monday - I will update the root cause in this case.

Remove the belt and see if the noise goes away,It could be a idler pully for the timing belt.

A new alternator is $300???? What about just a pulley? If that is the issue.

Done - i can hear the sound of engine and exhaust again.
Two pulleys were responsible for whining.
Koyo bearings installed - 8$ + 20$ labour 🙂👍🏽
BTW I am in Poland 🙂

What two pulleys were they? If it is an alternator bearing, can that be replaced?

Not the alternator's, not the power steering pump's, not the AC's pulleys.
One was tensioner pulley - the second I didn't asked. The mechanic said he just took off the belt and spined each one by ✋.

Put a stethoscope on it last night and its definitely either the tensioner pulley or the idler pulley. I can hear noise from both. since they’re on the same bracket I would assume if one is making noise you would be hearing it through both. So I am just going to buy the whole assembly with both pulleys and hopefully tonight that noise will be gone because it is the most annoying thing I’ve ever heard
