Warranty-service bullitins

Had my car in for warranty service recently, and one of the items repaired/replaced was the side view mirrors.

The dealership told me that there had been a service bullitin repair authorized for over a year. I asked them why I had not been notified, and if they could do all other service bullitins that affected my car. They told me that service bullitins do not cause an automatic repair, and they cannot make any related repairs unless there is an identified problem.

Is this legit? Is there a way to get a list of all service repairs impacting my 07 TL-S, and getting a dealership to do them before I go off warranty? (Currently have 47k miles)

THanks,

Yup, service bulletins are to help the tech doing the repair. They are not recalls and are not cost free if not under a warranty. Many owner's won't need to use the TSB's if no problems exist.

Just the TSB's for a 2007:

I had both of my mirrors replaced under this TSB. I bought an 06 CPO and noticed the right mirror was really slow and creaky when I put the car in reverse. Took it in and they replaced both mirror motors under that TSB.

I’ve been through that list a hundred times; just wish I could retain all the information that’s available. Great reference material and hope the guys appreciate the effort as much as I do.

No, they replaced it under warranty using the TSB as a guide. TSBs should be considered instruction sets for specific problems - -they're an aide to the mechanic because when you come in with that problem, instead of sitting there running down a generalized diagnostic checklist, he can follow the test procedure in the TSB and find/fix the problem faster.

That said, I do think there are some TSBs that should be recalls and done for free.

Had the same problem with my 07' TL-S. Took it into the the Acura Dealership and they fixed both mirrors. Guy at the dealership said it was a recall, but I didn't think it was since I did not recieve any notification at all about it. Didn't cost me a thing so I could care less about the notification just as long as it was fixed. Works just fine now. =)

It's only a recall if it involves the safety of you (think P/S recall, fuel pump relay recall, etc, for the 3G TLs). Mirrors that chatter and click aren't going to kill you, except maybe from being annoying

That said, without logging on to Honda (ISIS) and checking, I'm pretty sure the fix for the mirror chatter is just replacing the affected actuator, not the mirror. In fact, if memory serves me correctly, there is actually a service news reminding techs of the TSB for that exact reason.

On a side note, I have replaced both on my car, right before 50k, so it would be under warranty. Getting paid to do free work on my car is always the best

TSB stands for Technical Service Bulletin
its meant for distribution to acura dealer techs to speed troubleshooting of odd problems
when a fix has been found..
cuts down on internal company cost to not pay for lengthy diagnosing of problems they already know how to find and fix

The TSB list gives an idea of the kinds of things- from speaker rattles to thunks in suspension
some of the TSBs say if certain conditions are found- then replace the part under warranty
thats rare but it happens

So rushing to the dealer demanding free fixes for problems you dont even have because you read about a potential,,,
sorry-thats not going to work
no `preventative maitenance` in that way! unless you happen to be an acura tech~

Thanks for all your help. I am finding several issues that I have been reporting all along, still not resolved that are detailed in your link of service bulletins.

Couple of follow-up questions:

1. Is your list of 5 items above the link all inclusive?
2. You item #2, "TSB 08-026 EQUIPMENT: OTHER LABELS" is not found or detailed on your link of all TSBs?
3. Your last/5th item "Service Bulletin ... ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING" is not found/does not reference with the link of all TSBs

Thanks again,
