Sounds like either you have the spring turned the wrong way or it got bent out of shape a bit. Calmly and carefully examine both the spring and the headlight to see which way it fits. Look at the other headlight for a reference. You have everything you need to resolve this right there in front of you.
I remember when I was installing my AEM v2 and lost track of what tubes went where. I just had to sit there and look at the parts I pulled out carefully, turn them over and around and eventually I figured it all out.

Spring looks fine, check the clip on the top (one that the clip snaps into) to make sure its in one piece and that the clip locks in perfect. As mentioned by DWB, compare both sides to rectify the problem.

Seems like you forced the ignitor/bulb plug (shown in picture above) onto the bulb and twisted it the wrong way and broke the bit off. No worry though, there are four slots on the plug and only two are used at any given time.
Here is the explanation, with pictures , I used a denso ballast as thats the only one I have with me.
Holding the plug and looking at its business end, this is what you will see. The slots are usually at 2, 5, 8 and 11 o’clock (circled yellow)
The HID bulb has the prongs that sit in the slots at 3 and 9 o’clock.
Picture shown below shows when one of the prong is sitting in one of the slots.
Prong fully pushed in and twisted into the lock position.
This picture shows how the bulb looks from behind once installed in the projector, notice the two prongs, one on each side (3 and 9 o’clock)
Here the plug is twisted on, slots used are 2 and 8 o’clock ones.
In your case you broke one of the slots. Just rotate the plug 45 degrees and snap it, use the remaining set of good slots i.e. 5 and 11 o’clock ones .
