Unlock then automatically relock

2005 TL MT - Bough new in '05 145K miles

Over the past two weeks when I use the key fob to unlock the doors they will initially unlock but then immediately relock on their own. I need to either have my hand on the handle to open the door as soon as it unlocks or if I hold the unlock button on the fob it will stay unlocked until I open the door. Once I open the door, they all stay unlocked.

Today I noticed that when after driving I turned the car off and doors automatically unlocked (as they always have) that they then relocked. I had to use the unlock button then to get out of the car.

Anybody ever hear of something like this?

Thanks!!

I had the same symptoms in my 07 and the culprit was a bad drivers side door actuator. A cheap part but kind of a PITA to replace.

Thanks for the feedback!

how can I tell which actuator is bad? When it was happening this morning I watched all four locks and each one would go up when I unlocked with the fob then they each immediately relocked.

Thanks again!!

More than likely it's the driver door actuator. The driver one has 2 way communication. If the doors are unlocked and you push down on the driver lock pin, all doors will lock. This does not happen on any other door. Due to this, you unlock the car and the car thinks the driver door is still locked (it might not move up 100% or send the car an "im unlocked now" message). Then the car will re lock itself thinking you pushed it down!

Thanks again! That makes perfect sense. I’ll be ordering an actuator for the drivers door today.
