Type S automatic shift surround problem?

Guys my type s has the auto. The aluminium part surrounding the gear selector is raised more on the side towards the driver then on the other side. I would estimate it is flush on the passenger side and raised about 1/8 of an inch on the driver side... Is this the way the car was designed or do I need to figure out what is causing this rise? Thanks

mine was about the same way.
i was planning to cf di-noc a lot of the interior, including this piece. so i just popped it out, wrapped it, and put it back into place straight down. it now fits straight no problem.

Pretty sure mines flat all around.

Here's an old pic for you to compare:

Meh, maybe can't see it so well.

Here's another (Steven Bell's):

I recommend Photobucket as a hosting site.

There are a couple of little tabs on each side of the surround that anchor it-- just slip a credit (or other type of plastic) card under the left or right edge of the surround and push gently to compress those tabs slightly while simultaneously pulling up the surround.

Oops-- I was referring to the trim around the shifter gate piece, not the shifter gate piece itself.
