Trunk won’t open with key, will open from emergency latch
I just bought a 2004 TL and when I got it home I realized the truck wouldn’t open. I would press the button the key, and you can hear it unlatch but stay shit and a few seconds later latch back up.
I would try and tug on it when it unlatched but wouldn’t open. I looked in the glove box for a truck shut off switch and i tried it in both positions and still nothing.
My last attempt was to try to use the emergency truck latch (the one if you get shoved in a trunk) using a grabber tool from the bonfire pit I got it. The trunk opened up, like it was fine, and when I shit it again same problem.
Does anyone have an idea of what is causing this? A fuse? The shocks that keep it open?

Open the trunk lid. Take a screwdriver and with the lid open, insert it in the latch and close it. Then try to open it using the fob and with the release button below the steering wheel.
When you do that see if the latch releases. If not try again but now while the screw driver is in it, pry the latch open. Spray some wd40 or whatever in it to lubricate it.

Sometimes a spring gets loose on the mechanism too, which is supposed to allow the latch to open when the open button is pressed. Mine came unhooked on one side so pressing the button wouldn't do anything until it was hooked back on
