Transmission may be dead!!!

As most of you know, I have the stage 3 clutchmaster clutch and flywheel in my car. Last night my car was making a noise similar to the noise a baseball card makes in the spoke of a bicycle. I put it in 2nd gear and got on it. All of a sudden boom!!..loud rattling noise. I pulled over.

The car only makes the sound when the clutch is engaged and the transmission is turning. At idle with the clutch pedal in, it does not make any noise. As soon as you release the clutch in neutral, it sounds like BBs inside of a tin can rattling around. My first guess is the input shaft to the transmission is broken. The 2nd and hopeful guess is its a bearing on the clutch or a problem with the clutch. I got the car towed to Acura and they havent called me back yet. It is 28k miles out of warranty . Any guesses?

** MOD EDIT** When your ready to do so, post a thread in the Black Market.

keep us updated.. what about your stock internals?

I'm sure you'll get things worked out.. you're just getting stressed. Hate to see you part your car out over this especially with all your mods & money spent on it..

Hopefully it's just a burned out clutch. Keep your head up!

From what you describe, I would guess a bearing IN the transmission.

If it were the throwout bearing, that should make MORE noise when you step on the clutch.

If you hear the noise with the car in nuetral and clutch pedal out (clutch engaged) then it's possibly the bearing on the input shaft or a countershaft bearing(s).

Don't think it would be differential if it makes the noise with the car sitting still (in nuetral - think you said it did it even then).

IOW transmission will need to come out and be "overhauled".

AS always, YMMV. <g>

i think it is a bearing or a broken mainshaft on the trans.

Before it broke, did the sound vary with road speed, engine speed or did it depend on what gear you were in?

Youre not kidding! That's why my TL stays stock. I learned my lesson although it took me until I was 29 to finally realize the 25yr old 600rwhp car is always going to break something and may not be the best DD.

WTF? are you dumb? As soon as the car started making that noise was the time to pull it over.......you got exactly what you deserved.......and it will end up costing you a lot more to fix.......

it was going to happen anyways...you can mend metal back together. it broke a mile away from my house instead of going on a mountain run or something.

so i bought a trany off of ebay for $550. A local shop is doing the install for $630. I ordered new pilot and throw out bearings along with some motul brake fluid. That cost around $150. Next tranny will be babied for sure.

thanks...tensioner is messing up now and the master cylinder doesnt want to disengage the clutch! it was doing that before the tranny problem though.
