Unhappy Transmission leaking.. a lot... FML

First break-down since I got the car in 2011...

I honestly don't know how or when it started but after 1 mile off the driveway I noticed something is not right with the acceleration. When I released the gas, the car would not move (just like in neutral), when I stepped on it slightly RPM would shoot up to 3-4 and come back down but very slow acceleration.

So then I stopped by the roadside and noticed the red fluid coming out FAST... I couldn't see where it came from because of the black plastic cover but the rate of flow it was dropping down was a lot.

I didn't touch anything regarding the transmission since 2 years ago when I changed out the fluid. No hard bumps, potholes, whatsoever. The only thing I did yesterday that was kind of out of the ordinary was I drove 80 miles to a sporting event (I only drive 20 miles a day usually).

Any guesses what MIGHT could have happened? and any hint whether or not I still have any luck with the transmission or should I start saving up for a new one? PLEASE advise I appreciate any thoughts and comments...

Something could have started leaking easily just due to a broken transmission gasket or line!

Jack up the car and take off the cover and look for the source of the leak! It may help to have a friend pour some ATF into the transmission to help find the leak.

yeah I'm hoping it's just the transmission line and not the broken gasket... how the hell can it happen so randomly..

Take a look at the axles, maybe one broke and it's coming out of the seal?

Is your 'D' light flashing?

I know others have had problems where the axle broke and they thought it was the trans.

hmmm.. that's interesting never thought about the axle.. the D light wasn't flashing though..
I'll have time to look at it this Tuesday but am still hoping it's something simple like a busted transmission line..
*fingers crossed*

i'd rather have a broken axle than a busted transmission line.
