Transmission help!

So I have an 2005 Acura TL base model with 190k miles. I am experiencing problems with my transmission. Symptoms that I am having are
-rough shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd
-High RPMs while on highway (sometimes)
-sometimes swipe stick won't work
And all of those problems gets better when the engine is warmed up but I still get a little rough shift. What are your suggestions that it might be causing this or is my tranny going bad? I am going to change the fluid today to see if it does anything but I would like to hear you opinions as well.

If you do a search here on AZ, many folks with 3G TL automatics will recommend / have had luck with changing pressure switches in addition to drain and refill.
There is tons of info if you search. Try the 3G garage as well

The rough shift from 1st to 2nd is nornal, that just happens over time but the granny's from 2004 to 2006 all have issues with 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches. You need to replace them with the pressure switches from a 2007 to 2008 tranny.

The Hugh rpm on the highway is from the 4th gear pressure switch not reaching a high enough pressure to switch to 5th gear. I haven't replaced mine yet but when mine does this, I put it into the manual mode and shift to 5th and the rpm's drop.

That's my fix until I have some extra cash to do the pressure switches. Changing your tranny fluid will also help the 1st to 2nd gear shift too. You need a thick oil to help smooth shifts, but it'll be rough until its warm and the fluid warms up, another option is to get some higher end racing tranny fluid and an oil cooler for it so you get liquid smooth shifts but you need an oil cooler hooked up for the tranny fluid to make sure it doesn't get too hot which can turn the oil to become so thin it no longer protects the tranny.

I have less then 1000km left until I need to change my tranny fluid and I'm slowly buying all the parts. I'll be making a write up on how to fully revamp the automatic to shift smoother and keep a standard temperature to prevent any damage.

I actually found a write up on adding a new transmission cooler.

And here's a link to changing your pressure switches with part numbers.

I don't know if I'd consider a rough shift normal?

Well it's not "normal" but for an automatic with 190,000mi that's considered normal when transmission fluid changes aren't done regularly, I've noticed on these cars they need to be done more frequently then others. Its every 60,000mi on most but these cars it seems the dealer recommends every 35,000mi
