Transmission "D" indicator not lit and won't shift to 3rd gear.

I was heading home on the highway today and felt my car lose power for a split second. I didn't think anything of and i was going about 100 km/h, i heard like the car was revving high and that's when i turned off the music. The rpm gauge was about 4k and i noticed that the green light to indicate that the car is in drive is not lit. The second time it happened a engine code P0706 and hard shifts, it won't go to 3rd gear. Also, if i try to drive in manual mode it doesn't display the gear it's in. Does anything come to mind? Please help. I tried looking through the threads, but I couldn't find anything specific to my issue.

The in-site search is a bit finicky sometimes, use Google to search your code "p0706" but add "site:acurazine.com" https://www.google.com/search?q=site...hrome&ie=UTF-8

You should see some results that fit your issue.

I bought an OEM transmission range sensor and installed it, to my disappointment, it wasn't the problem.
Do you guys think that a faulty shift solenoid could cause this problem? I spoke to a Tech at Acura and he's already calling a tranny. Smh...

The D blinking means there is an issue stored in the car and a regular scanner won't pull it up most of the time. Buy a copy of HDS from ebay or find a shop that has (HONDA DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM) and plug it into your car. The Code will be different like 21-12 or something of the nature. Look in your service manual (free download online) and you can see what the issue is.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bad 3rd or 4th gear pressure switch.

That's one of the problems, there is no D light.
Would a faulty 3rd and/or 4th gear pressure switch cause the D light or when in manual mode gear not to display?

Update on my 2005 TL issue; the problem was a faulty ECU(computer). It took some digging, but i got it. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

No, there was no water marks on the ecu, no water intrusion.
I printed off the wiring diagrams for the range sensor operations from bbbind.com. I checked for power, ground and continuity from the range sensor to the ECU. I also checked the gauge cluster for good measures.

To my delight, yes.
A lot.... of people were saying that the tranny is toast, but not always the case.
