Transmission

Hello,

I have a 2004 TL w/NAVI and recently started hearing a high pitched/wining noise that started at about 50 MPH then got louder from 60 – 70 MPH but was gone by 80 MPH. I took the car in to the dealer and they took it for a road test. When they got back from road test they agreed they heard the noise and wasn’t sure what the problem actually was. They gave me a loaner car and called me a couple hours later and told me the noise was due to some faulty bearings in the transmission. They then told me that they are going to replace the transmission. Not being a car geek I was wondering how big of a job is replacing a 2004 TL transmission was? If it wasn’t under warranty how much does something like this cost? Does replacing the transmission since it wasn’t done at the factory degrade your TL in any way?

Thanks

pulling the tranny is a pretty big job...i think acura uses remanufactured trannys when they do a warranty replacement. its also fairly expensive if not done under warranty. nothing should happen to the value of the car.

it' s almost a 8 hours labour + alignment of the wheels

cost about 3500 US dollars

Damage : If done properly no

It won't be a new one but a rebuilt for sure

Just out of curiosity, how many miles were on the car when you started hearing the noise or how many miles were on the car when you took it to the dealership?

8000 Miles and the first time I reported it to the deal they blew me off saying they didn
't hear any werid noise. Second time they found the issue. This noise was so annoying to listen to while driving. I hope this reman trans does the job.

^-find out what kind of warranty the reman trans carries. ive heard of some dealers telling customers that warranty parts only come with the 12/12 factory warranty and are no longer under the regular 5 yr warranty. i think thats BS but im curious as to what you were told

I had a whining noise that ended up being the belt tensioner pulley.

WOW,

my car has exactly the same problem! and I was told exactly the same thing. I'm taking my car in thursday next week so I'll update you after.

Mine started to get louder at 13000 but I did notice a noice at 6000. It must be a bunch of defective trannys.

You aren't alone
