i have replaced two of the tranny mounts (upper and front ). The back is giving me a lot of trouble coming out of its tight space. Bolts are all out but I dont have enough clearance even after jacking the tranny in various spots. Members please suggest a solution i really dont want to take the top parts again to remove the upper mount totally to let the tranny rise up all the way. That is the only option left i am thinking . Someone please confirm if the upper mount needs to be removed for tranny to rise up all the way?
I noticed with tranny jacked up all the way almost, upper mount is bulging upwards.
Please advise, I have given up for the day.

^ i havent done any of the mounts yet.
but the way you are describing it, it sounds as if you are going to have to take out the top mount

First post on the forums but have been using thid site using the search feature for a while.I love this site.I just cant find the answer anywhere and this thread was the closest to it. Basically im doing all my mounts but am stuck on the rear lower transmission one.The front and upper ones were challenging but not to hard and very doable . Im stumped here and don't know what to do. I was able to jack the transmission up enough with the 2x4 wood to remove the rear transmission mount,(the screw to remove on the engine side is a real bitch) but for the life of me i cant slide the new one back in no matter how much i jack the tranny up ! I need some advice if any gurus can give me some. Thanks a million in advance.

(I have the upper trans mount still removed so its able to jack all the way up but still not quite enough)

Unhappy

You've gotta take out the battery and battery tray underneath. It's right there . If its bad it'll have the obvious cracks throughout it. I need to know how to get this dam rear transmission mount out though

yeah i don't see how it's possible to remove the 2 lower tranny mounts without either dropping the subframe OR loosening ALL of the engine mounts/tranny mounts to gain enough clearance.

the tranny just WILL NOT jack up high enough to remove the lower tranny mounts.

front engine mount. easy
side engine mount. super easy
back engine mount. a bit harder, but overall easy.
top tranny mount. cake
lower tranny mount(s).

i ended up getting which ever part number that is correct for my year.

the broken one pictured above is bolted to the subframe and the tranny.
all i did was unbolt it from the subframe then the tranny.
it slid right out, and i slid the new one into place and bolted it back up

I went out to grab a movie from redbox one day.
the car behaved very weird, as I would go for a stop, the car leaned forward. I could feel the weight of the car just lean forward. taking a left turn into a U-turn proved to be difficult as well. the weight of the car just shifted soo much
I also heard clicking.

i thought it was axles.
then my next thought was that I shattered my LSD, as I love to launch the car and remembered the day before I was wheel hopping. i definitely thought it was a bad LSD.

came home and researched a bit.
jacked the car up and tested the LSD. test came back negative and LSD is working.
next i checked axles. then i saw something ripped.
and it was the mount.

ALL of the mounts definitely must be removed in order to fully raise the transmission to get to the rear tranny mount. Just did it, and at 146000 miles it actually didn't look to worn or damaged at all. Sorry to bump an old thread but thanks for the advice guys it majorly helped me

please note that mattymattB and sharksbreath has an 07-08 automatic which has the new design for the lower transmission mount. the new design is much stiffer and a lot more complicated to change than the old design. the 04-06 has 2 bottom transmission mounts, very easy to change.

I sure wish I had a picture of what one should look like...
I am hearing a clicking noise at up/down shift...it's an audible "thud" "clank" "click"...
Nothing seems loose...none of the balljoints, no end links...

I just can't tell if mine is busted or not.

Yeah, came from Ohio...
certain parts of the car have some surface rust.
I think I nailed my thud noise down to the compliance bushing though...
it aint' pretty but the mount rubber itself seems to be pretty intact.

^yeah, mine I could tell that it was ripped cuz there was space missing.
I cant really tell in your pic but if there isnt anything odd looking to it, ie; ripped, torn, looking out of the normal then it should still be good
