TPMS System Error
TPMS System Error
A couple of days ago my TL displayed "TPMS System Error" in the MID along with the TPMS idiot light while I was driving on the freeway. About 10-20 miles later the error message and idiot light disappeared and I chalked it up to just a glitch. I didn't have any problems yesterday but the same thing happened tonight on the way home from work after driving about 30 miles. However, this time the error message and idiot light stayed until I turned off the ignition after getting home. I turned the ignition back on, but didn't start the car, and everything was fine. The TPMS system passed its power-on test.
I've searched the site but can't find an exact match for this problem. Does anybody have an idea? I haven't done anything to the TPMS sensors since I had my current set of tires installed (and I'm about 52K miles into my current set of tires and expect to get new tires very soon). I check my tire pressures several times a day via the TPMS.
Would one faulty sensor, or a dead sensor battery, cause the entire system to throw an error? Could there be a bigger problem?

Most likely that one or more of the TPMS batteries are weak. I had this happen with my summer set and not the winter. I watched the TPMS screen and sure enough the one reading incorrectly or delayed in updating was the culprit and had it changed.
I'm thinking batteries too. My wife's CR-V is doing similar thing with an intermittent TPMS system warning in the form of an idiot light (there's only a TPMS light or icon of a low tire in that car). We have quite some time left on the tires so I'm not about to go change out any transmitters to get rid of it.
The only other thing I'll throw out there is this. Just Google the words "tpms light phone charger" and you might be surprised. So if you have recently changed or started using some new charger in the car it's worth a look. But on an 06 low transmitter batteries are still pretty likely too.

Thanks for the info. When the error has appeared, the pressure values for all of the tires read "---". However, I have noticed that one tire has been slow to update (while driving) in the past. You'd think Honda would have made it easier, without a special device, to see that it's not an entire system failure but just indicate which sensor is not transmitting its readings correctly.
As for the phone charger, I did install a new charger in the power outlet in front of the shift lever (for my GoPro) more than a month ago but haven't been using it for a couple of weeks. It's a stubby charger with two 2.1A USB ports that I can leave in the outlet (if I use it, I only use one of the ports). However, since I haven't been using the charger, it's not drawing any significant amount of current.
I think a dying sensor battery makes the most sense considering that one of the sensors has been slow to respond.
