TPMS problem...

I have an 08 TL. Traded my stock rims for type s rims over summer. forgot I had TPMS sensors in my wheels, dumb. so I ended up buying used ones off the BM on this site for like $60, great condition.

Got them installed today and they are not kicking in, MID still says error. Is there something that has to be done for them to work?

no there is nothing that has to be done for them to work.

if they are installed properly, they will self-calibrate within a few miles of driving.

either your installer didn't mount them properly, or they're damaged, or they're the wrong sensors, or you haven't driven on them enough for them to calibrate.

okay, thanks for reply. I'll give them some more time and then go from there.

after 40 miles of driving, still not working. prob something wrong right? or could need more time?

could it have anything to do with the fact that ive been driving around for about 5 months without any sensors in? idk

take off the negative terminal of the battery and let it sit for like 5-10 mins. its a 10mm bolt.

^although i don't see how resetting your battery has anything to do with the TPMS.

sensors are the same for ALL 06-08 models. they do have OEM sensors, and aftermarket ones though. but it's just different part numbers (diff companies)...the product itself is the same.

okay thanks. maybe resetting the battery would reset the computer systems in the car and let everything reset? including the tpms system? loll idk

^well, either the sensors are damaged or they are not installed properly. take the car back to the shop and have them dismount the tires and make sure the sensors are seated properly. if they are, then your sensors are trash and you'll need to get new ones.

vendor AckTL05 can get you brand new ones for a little over $100 shipped.

You're really taking a chance by buying used TPMS Sensors (sensors is repeated). The TPMS sensor batteries should last 5 to 8 years and the batteries are built into the sensors so the customer would need to buy a new sensor(s) every so often. The 5 to 8 years is considerate of a good battery that was placed into the sensor. For everything that consumers buy, there are defective batches so therefore you may have bought a defective sensor.

yea true. what if only 1 of them is defective? would that throw them all off? or would it single out the defective one?

The monitor will tell you which one is defective, its usually the one that reads -- or some ridicules tire pressure so in any case just the one sensor and not all of them.

^i'm going to go with no

plus the fact that you bought them used, you have no proof of when they were manufactured or where they even came from.

good luck and let us know what happens.

^i mean, they won't know they were purchased used.

but YOU don't have any proof of purchase besides the fact that you bought them used haha. so either way, you're kinda stuck.

idk...like i said, i don't think they're covered under warranty. it's sort of a wear and tear item because they do indeed have a lifespan of 5-8 years or something like that.

Update: sensors randomly started working today. I think the warm weather may have had somethin to do with it. I actually have a $100 credit at Acura because I or my battery replaced not realizing it was still covered under warranty. So Acura gave me a credit which I was thinkin about using for the sensors. So now I have $108 to spend at Acura, any ideas?

any decent mods I can do for around $100?
And does anyone have any input about what may have made the sensors suddenly kick in after being in my tires four around a month and half? thanks

i believe there is a battery in them that will die at some point. perhaps the set you bought is on their last legs.
