TPMS Dosn't Like The Cold

When the temperature hit -1 C, the front two tire pressure monitors both went into alarm (couple days apart). Pressure indicators indicated that the pressure was fine and I confirmed this with a guage. Periodically, they randomly go into and out of alarm (one at a time not both at the same time). The temperature went down to -15 C and now all four are doing this. Pressure is normal on all four tires. This shouldn't be normal for these sensors should it? Anyone gone through a winter with these sensors and did they work normally?

When the temperature hit -1 C, what was your pressure -
1) as displayed by the MID ?
2) as indicated by your air gauge ?

Whenever one (or more) of the tires drops below 27 PSI, the MID will display the warning. The MID requires a minimum of 29 psi in each tire for the warning message to be reset.

You need to get more air in your tires, when there cold. It's not the TPMS, is the pressure in your tires. Same thing happen to me when the first cold spell happened here. I put more in air the tires no more problems.

But you also have to watch that come temps up in the 50 F you may see your pressur too high.

When you say the pressure is normal do you mean it was manually checked and is at 32 etc? ( or whatever the KPA is)

We are supposed to get down to -12C ( 10F) here in the next few days I'll see what mine does.

Damn ... how did we ever make it down to 7-11 prior to TPMS? Too bad TPMS wasn't setable with an upper alarm too.

I think you guys have nailed it. I did a conversion of what I though was normal kpa (196) and it's about 28.4 psi which according to the comments is to low. That also explains why they do not reset or they are just on the border of resetting. I'll put air in tomorrow and see what happens. Makes me wonder about my air gauge which when I check the tires (temp around -1 C and tires warmed up) showed 35 psi.

There is a direct correlation between pressure and temperature. Check your pressures cold....not warm.

1 PSI drop for every 10 Deg F drop in temp.

Temperature is my area have been as high as 70 F since the first cold spell and no problems with having TOO much air in them.

When the temp falls, it sucks air out of the tires. So you have to put more in them.

Forecast is for the temperature to hit -27 C (-17 F) next week. I better get some air in those tires quick!
