Thumbs down Question about acura warrenty work? Long Thread

I bought by 06 wdp back in april, and noticed after I got her home and cleaned it up that there was black over spray on the bumpers. So ok not an emergency, I will get it looked at sometime in the near future. Well since then the FM radio completely stopped working, the check engine light comes on, and the seat heater works when it wants to. So I take it in to the dealer november 8, They call yesterday and let me know it's ready. Now for the Problems!!! The guy pulls my tl around the building and from a distance I was like damn that looks good, until he got within 5 feet. There is a run about 2ft long on the middle body line the recess in the body. Then I step into the sunlight and the paint is about 3 shades darker on the bottom of the of the car when compared to the top. I then look around the car and there is overspray in every wheel well (alot) The rockerpanels and the front and rear bumper are in worse condition then they were before I took it in. Ok so I open the door and wow to my suprise there are paint edges every where. and compared to the door jams it's like night and day color difference, not to mention they did not clean the grease off of what seems to be every single piece of my fresh untouched tan leather back seats. Not to mention they beat my driver seat all to hell, I guess to work on the heater. and stained the front leater and carpet with grease!!! I refused to take the car and they gave me back the loaner. What can I do now I have no desire to keep the car that the dealer ruined, the car was mint with just about 5,000 miles. Any Info would be great

If you did not authorize the paint blend (it is not anywhere on your paperwork) and there is nothing in the form stating they can perform additional work to correct problems (under warranty), then they might be in some trouble.
Even with all the problems I don't think they will take you car back. They will repaint the pooly painted areas and replace/clean the leather they damaged.

Well I talked to the dealer and they said my options are as follows.... just keep the car with the ugly paint or they will attempt to repaint the car again. So I called acura customer servive and they said they will have a claims agent call me later. Also to fix the overspray they just re painted the wheel wells with black paint so now instead of white paint in the wheel well I now have black overspray on the white body of the car. They can't seem to do a damn thing correct. I guess I will just get the car painted and painted and painted until im happy with the end result. Or at least till the car is white again and not yellow.

Maybe I don't understand this thread. Why in the world are they painting a new and undamaged car??? And why in the world was there overspray on a brand new car?? I think something is fishy here. I do my fair share of bitching here about folks who want something for nothing...but in this case, I would be looking for some answers. And I absolutely believe that you have a case for a new car (minus the mileage you have on your old car) if they have painted it without your authorization...especially if they did it to hide something. I would also want to know why it had overspray on it when it was new. Was it freight damaged? Did they have to fix something at the factory before delivery to the dealer? (nothing you can do about that) All I know is if I took a new car to the dealership for work and I got it back painted, they would own it. Pure and simple. And I don't care how much I had to pay an attorney. If you can tell it's been painted, then so can a future buyer. Try and explain that away....

Overspray can be present on a new car for many reasons but they don't have to repaint to remove it .. Most the time a clay bar will do it .. I had some on my A pillar and it was 20 min to take it off with clay and repolish ... if they repainted a lot of the car prolly means somone tried with a rotary to get it off and did a little burning or damaged the paint using solvents.

Something a little fishy here...

I called acura customer care and they said there is nothing that they can do because it's not a problem with "ACURA" its a workmanship issue with the dealer.
Oh listen to this....So after I seen the car didn't match when the doors were opened In the door jam (the factory paint was alot whiter than the new paint they used) I complained. They said leave the car and the service manager will look at it, and he will call you to see if you want to keep the car the way it is or have the car repainted again. So yesterday the dealer calls and says we painted the car again and it's ready to be picked up! I said who authorized the car to be painted again? They said "you sir." Um...... . So you know what they did???? They painted the door jams yellow to match the yellowish body. WTF and apparently Im now stuck with the car because they did a great job with the car and "customer satisfaction" and Im according to them way to particular it's just a car. Then the guy has the nerve to say "Sir, It's only a TL we paint jaguars" ok so what does that have to do with the price of eggs in china? Im now at a loss I guess im going to have to get a lawyer. Because in there eyes they did me a favor by "fixing" the car

They had damn well better have a SIGNED authorization from you to paint the car.

I have to say....it this were my car, they would own it...and I don't care what it took to ensure that. Boy. They must have big brass ones to paint a customer's car without his permission.

It would appear that body shops screwing up on TL paintjobs isn't a rare occurance.

I bought my car brand new and it had to have the hood, roof, quarter panel and trunk repainted - that was after arguing with the sales manager and getting ahold of the GM... Looking back, I should have demanded a new car rather than having the car repainted.

Needless to say, there was overspray on panels, specs of dust in the paint on every panel they painted, etc. I've been to the body shop to pick the car up or to take it back over 5 times now. I just got it back last week and everythings "correct" now, aside from a 1/16" of paint being present on the rubber trim.

The body shop manager has been real friendly and has done his best to have things corrected, but it's still upset to pay $38,000 (a-spec) for a car and have these kind of issues. I'd be upset to have these kind of issues on a $16,000 Civic! It doesn't matter if it's a civic or a 7 series.

Dan, if you've got paint on the rubber trim, you're not through with them yet. I would make them remove it or replace the trim. If you're car shows it's been repainted, that will kill you at trade or sale time.
