Torn engine mounts (pics inside)

There's been a lot of vibration in the cabin lately. Both when standing still in Driver or Reverse, and at 50mph in 5th.

So I took the passenger side cover off in the engine bay, and found that the side engine mount is torn. Looking at it, I think this may be just an outer dust cover, but maybe torn from excessive engine movement?

I'm going to replace this side mount. But I'm also wondering about the front and rear mounts. From what I've read, it seems the front mount is pretty prone to failure, but it doesn't seem to be leaking at all. Looking at the engine movement, it looks a bit like there's some play in the rear direction.

Just a bit confused at how to determine which mount (front or rear) is bad? Looking through the forums, most people have the front go first, but mine looks ok. Can't see the rear mount at all. I'd appreciate any help diagnosing this.

Thanks.

The easy way to figure out which ones are broken is to look for an oily fluid around the mount... I had to replace both that side mount and the front one in my RL at 80k

From what I understand, that side mount only fails after either the front or rear mount lets go. Is that correct? The area around the front mount is visibly dry and I don't feel anything oily either. Does that mean the rear mount is bad? It's just that I haven't seen many people talking about that one needing to be replaced, and there doesn't seem to be a way to look at it without removing it.

Fwiw, the car is an 05 auto, with 45k miles. It's out of warranty.

I would try to get the dealer to replace whatever mounts are broken under a "goodwill warrenty" at that meilage you should have no problem getting them to take care of it.

Yes usually that side mount will only fail after a front of rear mount breaks... You should be able to see the rear one with a flashlight. You can also have someone firmly hold the break pedal and lightly push the gas with the car in drive while you look at the mounts to see which one seems loose. Make sure its someone you trust LOL.

If your not under warranty and you need to buy front and rear mounts, Im selling front and rear mounts in the black market. They have 11k miles on them

Call ACS. In the least, get a discount for replacement mounts. Don't just get the torn one replaced, get all 3 replaced.

If it happens later on, maybe you'll want to go aftermarket?

I'll try to see if they'll goodwill it in it's entirety. Doubt it though. The discount will probably end up being more expensive because their labor rate will get tacked on. It's $240 for all three mounts, and I can install them myself. More than likely though only this side mounts and one of the other two needs replacing, so more like $150.

I wouldn't mind aftermarket, but this is my mom's car.

libert69, thanks for the offer.

I used to work at a dealer and you would be surprised how many odyssey vans we would get in where mom was the only one driving it and it had torn mounts... Unfortunately to make their cars nice and quiet Honda had to use really soft liquid filled rubber mounts. There is just no way for them to last as long as some of the old hard rubber ones that would go 150k miles plus. I think under 50k you should still be able to get Acura to cover them though that’s just too soon for them to fail no matter how hard the vehicle is driven.
