TL wont start

Well I have had my 06 TL for about 6 months now. It is in the shop for the third time same problem

1rst time - engine would not start after multiple attempts over a 30 min period
towed to dealership and they couldnt replicate the problem...said I got bad gas drained tank and got the car back. Dealer said gas treatment might help if it does it again

2nd time - no start...addded gas treatment and it started right up

3rd time - picked up my car from having a tire problem fixed and it wouldnt start at the dealership this time. They said it was a problem with the imobilizer relay..replaced and on my way

4th time (next day from 2nd) same problem only it happened at home..same as 2nd added gas treatment and it started right up

Its at the dealership again. I love this car but man this is getting frustrating.

Anyone have suggestions or similar problem??

here are the common items though...only happens during heat of day (95+ degrees)

I assume you are using preimum gas. Do you use the top tier gas?

http://www.toptiergas.com/

DEFINITELY stay away from older/poorly maintained/low-traffic gas stations.

If the car will not start again, do not let the dealership start the car. Instead, have them retrieve the on-board snapshot data. This helps give Tech Line a better idea why the MIL is on. The On-Board Snapshot function in the ECM/PCM captures and automatically stores engine parameter data at 0.1 second intervals for the last 15 seconds before the MIL came on. The Freeze Frame function only captures and stores data that was there the instant the MIL actually came on.

Part of the above is from the June 2006 ServiceNews .

Even if the MIL is not on, it would be interesting to see what the data has to tell the Acura Tech Line as to why the car is unable to start.

See Engine Starting Problems? Check Immobilizer System Status . I would have this printout with the car so if/when the car fails to start again, you can give it to the service advisor.

Texas and yes the smell of a Lemon is on the horizon....only need one more break down. I am taking all of the keys to them to have them re programed (which I highly doubt is the problem) They said if this doesnt fix it they are going to replace the immobilizer next....but one more break down and that makes 4 which is what Texas requires!!!

I have seen people post lemonlaw.com before on this website. Since you are in Texas, see the firms listed.

I hope these folks are "experts" on the lemon laws.

Update

they re programed all of the keys per acuras request...then kept it an extra day to see if it would not start in the heat of the day. And it didnt. So now they are replacing the entire imobilizer system. Hope they get it right.....if I have to bring it back one more time its a Lemon!!

By them keeping it an extra day they got a 2 for 1 special on their attempts to fix it (2 repair services on one ticket).
When I was having transmission issues with my old 2000 Accord when I bought it, they kept telling me they were just going to re-open the old ticket and put the new work on it. That may get them out of the lemon law issue since technically, there was only one documented repair even thought it was more than one atttempt.

Good luck on the fix.

Yeah they did buy them an extra fix......but the fact is it still has had to be in the shop 3 times for the same problem for a total time out of service of 11 days...they got 19 days left of in shop...and if it wont start for any reason in the next year

You have some great patience!! Bought my 06 14 months ago with 2 miles on the odometer and it now has 10k miles on it. Only changed the oil and filled up with gas since day 1. No leaks, no rattles, purrs like a kitten. If my TL had let me down as much as yours, I would be pisssssed!!

sounds alot like my old MDX without the gas problems. Start to get all the paperwork in order and send a copy of the form I think yellow Copy (included in lemon law book with car purchase) and they will reply saying most likely that they wish to settle privately. When this happens, they hook you up with a honda mediator and get work done. They will prapose a replacement car of the same model (TL) and if you wish, you can pay MSRP difference for a different model (TLS, RL, MDX, ETC) and then a company called ISG will contact you later and set the dilevery dates and excahnge date for the cars. This is what happened with my MDX in October

Just back to topic, if you want to keep this TL and want to help out the techs, tell them to also check the fuel system because if the immbolizer system was bad, it would not be affected by gas treatment. My best bet is that either the fuel systems has a bad pump or something which does not send enough fuel to engine to start. The gas treatment thins it out or does something, fixing the issue. just my
