Hello everyone, I recently bought this 08 TL 3.2, and I'm desperate. It is making this ticking/knocking sound thats seems to be there only when idling, and appears only when the engine is warm, about 1 minute after fist starting. Noise seems to go away as rpms increase, engine runs good and strong and no check engine light. I already read a whole bunch of threads, adjusted the valves 3 times, checked the timing belt tensionner with a screwdriver up to my ear but I am really lost... PLEASE HELP!!!!

Maybe check for easy stuff like an exhaust leak(s)?

If you have a stethescope it may help pinpoint the noise.. I used one once to find a stuck injector on my 97 Camaro. When I used the stethescope, and touched the end on each Injector, I was able to find 1 injector that was irractic based on the ticking sounds that come from inside the injector. But no, your noise is not an injector. . If a valve is ticking.. you MIGHT be able to isolate it from the Rear bank, vs the front bank. Thats all I got

 

Thanks everyone, will be making a rockauto order soon for j pipe on exhaust cause yes it is leaking, I will also order up both new tensionners just as preventive, inspected the timing belt by the top and it seemed in good shape but a bit loose in my opinion. Will keep you guys updated!

 

I forgot to say the obvious... if you have a CEL, then find out what it is. haha

 

Did you figure out the root issue?

 

A leaking exhaust manifold can/will make a ticking sound if I remember on a chevy V8 from back in the day. But it is rare on a Acura TL
