Sun Spots on Dash. Our first TL
Sun Spots on Dash. Our first TL
Just purchased a 2004 Acura TL 96k, very clean and quiet. How ever now in the sunlight, we have noticed that the car has sun spots mainly on the passenger side of the dash. Do they make a compound, or polish to bring out the spots, or am i going to have use lots of armoral cover it up? By the way this site is very informative for new owners of the TL side. Thanks Caleb
Do a search here for "ashy dash"-- it'll bring up a host of threads about the issue you have.
Fix the problem by:
1) using a good vinyl cleaner -- the Honda stuff apparently is pretty good-- to wipe the dash (or woolite solution as described in other threads) and remove the outgassed materials that show as spots on the dash, and
2) applying 303 Aerospace Protectant or similar vinyl protectant onto the dash with a towel or applicator pad.
Welcome to AZ.

Keep the dash well "lubricated" to ensure longevity. Everyone has their favorites, but I use Turtle Wax F21 super protectant with sun stop. Just spray it on a cloth and apply to the dash. If you try and spray it on the dash, any solution wil get on the inside of the windshield, or other unwanted areas.

these sun spots you are seeing is a chemical that is migating through the vinyl; this is normal for the 3G TL. The solution to it is to first clean the dashboard. The best way to do this is with a solution, 1 part woolite, 6 parts water. Put the solution on a cloth and wipe down the dash with it. Follow up with a damp cloth and dry. Then wipe again with a damp cloth and then dry.
You may need to repeat this again depending on if it's ever been cleaned before, I'd recommend it.
Then you must put the finishing touch on it to restore the color and make it look better. Take some 303 Aerospace Protecant and spray onto a cloth. Then wipe down the dash. Let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe off any excess with a dry towel.
(303 will protect it from UV damage as well as moisturizing the surface since it's water based)
You can use 303 on the door seals, weather stripping, rubber and any plastic and leather! It's a great product. Just remember to clean all the surfaces first!
