Sudden electrical starting issue

05 MT TL. I stoped to get gas today and after I filled up I went to start the car and nothing. When I turn the key all sorts of dash lights flicker fast and a really quick ticking sound accompanies while I turn the key. When I release the key it stops. Its an electrical ticking not a starter/battery sound. This occurred literally after no symptoms for the 6 months Iíve had it to instantly nothing. Luckily I can pop the clutch from my driveway to get it going and everything works fine till I turn it off. Any ideas please?

Also, check the + battery cable. At this age, it might be corroded internally where you can't see it.
