Exclamation Stuttering power mirrors (reverse)

How many of you have the "stuttering" power mirror issue where the mirror (left or right side) will have difficulties moving up or back down after putting the car in reverse and then out of reverse (like drive or park)? Sometimes it will also get "stuck" after trying to move up or down.

I've always had this issue and it seems that it comes and goes. I recall that there was a recent service bulletin about this, although I'm not sure if this would address my issue...

I have a 2005 5AT TL.

this happens on my tl as well. i'm fine with it though. the stuttering doesn't bother me as it doesn't get stuck. It's just that the motion isn't fluid/smooth.

Mine gets stuck and it ultimately does not make it back to the "original" position...

This is the second go 'round for my '06. I had both of the mirrors replace under warranty two years ago and now the drivers side is at it again. I'm still under warranty, so no worries.

My service advisor states that they are just replacing the actuator, not the entire mirror assembly as before.

Take it in, I got my driver side mirror replaced due to the same problem you were having. Had a rattle coming from that mirror as well so it killed 2 birds with one stone.

Just had both actuators replaced this last week under warrantee.
Everything now works as it should.
I questioned the dealer if possibly the replacement actuators had any design changes made since the originals were produced. He said no changes....so we should probably expect the problem to show itself again in the future.

I've had this issue a few times as well; it seems to correct itself if while in reverse during the "stutter", I switch it from Driver to Passenger and then back to Driver (which I keep it on normally)

It seems to correct and suddenly come out of it's stutter. I should bring it in...just another reason for the dealership to hate me!

Have an 06 and occasionally the mirror stutters. Tech at the dealership says to occasionally hose out the mirror with a "light" stream of water. If you live in a area that gets leaves or you park it outside all sorts of stuff gets behind the mirrors. Crap fouling the plastic actuator gear causes wear and the stuttering (which is actuator gear slipping).

The TSB for the mirrors addresses an issue where the plastic actuator gears get worn or stripped. Early on, they used to replace the affected mirror, now they just replace the actuator.

Tech told me that occasionally operating the mirror full up, then full down, full left, and full right can move the gear enough to find a good spot. When I do this-there is a definite "click" when the gear slips and catches on a good spot. Fixes it for a little while.
