The other night I started my car, drove less than 1/4 mile and it slammed into limp mode. The VSA light went on and it started chugging like crazy. I got to a red light, shut it off and re started it, and it started, but did not clear the limp mode. I pulled into a pharmacy and got it into a parking space. Shut it off, but I swear, I heard sizzling/static sounds like something was frying. I couldn't get the car started that night, tried jumping it, just kept cranking. I left it over night, went back the next day and it started right up. I drove it home and it ran no problem. Had plenty of power, no chugging, etc. That was 3 days ago. I've been trying to start it since then and the only thing it will do is crank. I bought a new battery, but that didn't fix the issue. Not sure what else I can check, and I'm looking for suggestions.

So I've replaced the battery and the starter relay. I've ordered the crankshaft position sensor and an upstream oxygen sensor, still waiting for those to arrive.

I've tried starting the car several times since I've posted and I'm still hearing a static, clicking type sound coming from the driver's side area by the fuse area, even for seconds when I turn the key off

Does anyone have a clue what this could be? I'm shooting in the dark here, so I'd appreciate any suggestions. It really doesn't seem like the car is getting spark when starting. I do smell gas, so I believe it's getting gas.
