2007 TL, with navigation.

A couple months ago, I started having an issue where my Nav screen would load directly to a password entering screen, where I have to put in the 4 digit nav code. Only sporadically, not every time I start the car. Maybe 1x per week, and I work in sales, so lots of starting and stopping the car midweek.

After a few weeks of that happening, had a more strange occurrence.

Key fob didn't work, even when I was right next to the car, so used the physical key to open the door. That set the alarm off. Started frantically pushing the unlock button, and suddenly, the fob worked!

Started the car, and this time the radio didn't work. The upper display said "code", and I had to put in the 6 digit code via the physical radio buttons.

Today, another weird thing.

Drove to work, then left for lunch. Leaving lunch, key fob worked, but once I got in the car, all electric was gone. Went to turn the key, no dash lights, no radio, nothing. Pulled the key out, hit unlock on the fob. Nothing. Lock. Nothing. Opened the door and closed it while staying in my seat, then hit lock, and the electric decided to work again. Started the car, and I got a weird "acquiring GPS" screen for a minute. Then had to put in the 6 digit radio code again.

Any ideas what is causing this? Weak car battery? Weak connection somewhere in the dash/nav unit?

Sounds like you need a new battery or check all your cables for corrosion at terminals and along the run itself. Replace cables and battery as necessary.

Sounds like I need a new battery and will check all of my cables for corrosion at the terminals and along the run itself. Will replace battery and cables as needed.

In my googles about people having to repeatedly put the nav code in, some folks were saying it ended up being the DVD unit in the trunk. Any way to troubleshoot for that, short of replacing the DVD unit?

I bought the car about a year ago, up to 85k miles now. I'm assuming it's the original battery, in which case, yeah it would be due for replacement.

<p><img alt="" src="https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif" title="rofl" /> at you catching on quick, stm.</p><p>yeah, the only way to test the dvd drive would be to swap it with a known working one...but it sounds like your drive is working.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>its way easier to test battery than dvd drive anyway....swap battery.</p>

</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Start by fixing your battery issue. If your battery power is flaky, the radio/navi will lose power and ask for the code every time you start your car.</p>

Get your battery tested for free at Autozone or other autoparts store. I thought I had a bad battery back in December. Battery tested fine. My problem was from a parasitic drain from my radio. Replaced the radio and all is well now.

On the flip side I've had a battery test "fine" and still be problematic..

OP, you're a good sport . Work on one problem than another. Get rid of the variables one at a time. After you confirm battery and the charging system isn't problematic, then you can go downstream

A few days after posting this thread, I realized my HFL was not working. I went ahead and replaced that thinking it may have also been causing battery drain. A few days after replacing the HFL module, I again got the weird issue where the nav screen asks for a code and my trip odometer resets.

Fine, guess I need a new battery. But I'm lazy and have been putting it off.

This past Tuesday, the battery on my friend's car completely died - he couldn't get it started even after using a battery tender, then getting a jump.

So I picked him up and took him to get a battery and some terminal cleaner and protector.

While he was replacing his, I finally decided to look at my battery. I really am that lazy.

The terminal on the positive side was loose and had worked it's way up a bit. Not really any corrosion to speak of, but gave the terminals a spray with cleaner and a wirebrush scrub and wipe down. Reconnected and spray some terminal protector.

All good so far, but the issue was like a 1x per week type of thing.
