Starter Problem
Starter Problem
Hello everyone, recently I had to change the starter on my TL 08. It seemed to be working fine and then the next day the starter motor continued to run and also when I turned the car off. The only way to stop it was by disconnecting the battery. Then, when I tried to connect the battery again the terminals started to spark so I couldn’t reconnect it. If anyone could help out I’d appreciate it, thank you.
Figure out if starter is getting power to the smaller wire. If there is power in that smaller wire even with key off, there is a problem with some circuit in the car.
If there is no power in smaller wire, and starter still runs even with key off, it would seem like solenoid on the starter welded itself shut.
Easiest way would be to disconnect that smaller wire and reconnect battery. Starter still runs, bad starter. Starter doesn't run, check for power in that small wire with a test light.
I don't remember but if our starter uses small ring terminal and nut for that small wire instead of the plug, it might be possible to short that small wire against big starter cable, and that would make it run all the time.

This happened to an old Ford truck on me a few years ago.
Why not just do away with the whole complex starter system and just put a power wire to it with a switch on the dash? JK.
Don't listen to me. Definitely don't listen to me.
Listen to Thoiboi and replace what he said.
