Squeal from engine, passenger side

A few weeks ago I started noticing a squeal from the engine, near the front passenger tire. It was only noticeable when running the car in 1500-2500 rpm, if I was idle it would go away and if I got the revs up to 3000+ it couldn't be heard anymore either. But it progressively got worse to the point that it would make this noise even when idled. I went home, parked the car, started it up the next day and it was fine. Drove it for about a week and half and the noise started again. Same situation too – it would only be noticeable at revs around 1500-2500. This time I took a video and placed the camera under the car and gave it a few revs.

http://db.tt/DR2zjvG

About the video: I first kept the revs at 1200 rpm, then moved up to 1500 rpm, then up to 2000 rpm and so forth. Each rev increase the squeal is getting faster and faster. Sounds like a failing belt but I'm not sure.

Any idea what this might be? I have a 2007 TL Type-S. My warranty is almost up, expires 6/2011.

Video NG-Normally a serpentine belt or idler pulley, but easiest check is to remove the serpentine belt, check the pulleys, start the car for only a few seconds and see if the noise is gone. If gone, replace the belt or pulley, if the sound is still audible, only reciprocating items other than the engine internals, are the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump.

Hey any update on this? I've just started having the same issue.

2007 TL-S

Upon cold startup (mornings) it squeals in idle, sounds exactly like a slipping belt. It's not extremely loud and matches RPMs as well.

I'm about to have my third trip to the dealer.
Input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

How many miles? Hate to sound like a broken record, but after 80K miles PS O-rings whine like crazy n cold temps. Its a quick $5 fix if that ends up being your problem.

J35A8_Party: I was able to stop in at the dealership and they said they have a bulletin on this issue. I believe they said it was a belt rubbing incorrectly. They said it's more apparent in colder weather. The part should be in by now. I'm planning to follow-up with them tomorrow. I'll try to get the bulletin name/number or find out what the exact part is that's causing the problem.

TRIOD3SIGNS: Around 36,000 miles.

its a o-ring, replaced mine last winter, cost 50 cents, look into this part I had it written down on a paper in my drawer lmao Part 91345-rda-a01, i think thats it

only squels at cold start etc. new o-ring will solve this, i think u remove 2 bolts on one of the lines with a rag underneath, switch o rings put it back on, top of power steering and down, its going to squel worse for a moment after you switch, the bolts are gentle dont over tighten or you may break them

I think the reason it squeals is the original o-ring are too thin, after a few years there worn down, in cold conditions, cold air is getting into the powersteering causing the noise and bubbling and loss of power steering coming right out of the reservoir, as soon as the engine warms up it goes away

most likely a bearing these serpentine belt tension and idler bearings fail prematurely. don't know about this belt rubbing business this dealership is selling but if the belt is rubbing you should see wear on it. If it was the o ring on the pump you would notice a steering problem like hard steering another premature wear item. and like escomaya said don't over tighten . there is only one bolt a 10mm on the bottom of the inlet tube to the pump

I was able to swing into the dealership this week to have the parts they ordered installed. So far no squeal when driving around and I haven't heard any squealing in the morning, though it hasn't been real cold lately.

The parts they ordered and installed where:

Quantity: 1
Part number: 38920-RCA-A03
Description: Belt, compresso

Quantity: 3
Part number: 90023-R70-A00
Description: Bolt, flange 8x8

Dealer fixed the issue. I believe there may be a TSB for this.
They had to replace the bolts on the AC compressor. The stock bolts are too short and wear, eventually loosening the pulley. The wobbling pulley is what creates the squealing.
New bolts are longer, have not had the problem since I got it fixed a couple months ago.

I'm also having the same issue, I'm at 80k miles and when the engine is cold in the morning it squeaks until it warms up, I know is not the O ring on the power steering hose because I just replaced it. What is it? Pulley? Belt? Is it time for the timing belt service?

I'm having the same problem. Replaced my ps onring and still have the noise. Going to replace the bolts and see what happens. Just for reference to others. My belt squeaks during cold start up and rainy days and them goes away after engine is warm.

if the squeak goes with engine revs its likely the belt. I had that once and replaced the belt. noise went away.

No my squeak is only during cold starts. Goes away when engine is warm. I've done PS hose recall and PS O-ring and replaced my belt about 10k miles ago. When I replaced belt it fixed noise but now it's back with a vengeance.

I attached a video to hear the noise.

tj19855 & navarretg: Sorry for the late reply. Not getting email reminders for some reason when people reply to this post. To answer your question, the noise I posted initially about was fixed and has never come back when the dealership installed those parts I listed above. It was getting worse and worse until I stopped and in and had it done. They said they had a bulletin on it. Your warranty is most likely up so I would get a bulletin reference number and/or instructions from them and go to a indie shop and have the work done. Hope that help!
