Squeaky clutch

Hi,

I just noticed today that when I press in and release my clutch pedal, it sounds like a plastic stretch sound is coming from the clutch. Any suggestions of what it can be?

Um, what kind of car, how much mileage on said clutch, and how do you drive? Might get more of a response.

I just replaced the clutch/flywheel less than 500 miles. 2004 Acura TL. 189k. No aggressive driving. Always shift between 3k to 4k.

Throw out bearing needing grease? Linkage needing some attention? Any slipping at all?

This might be better off in the 2G TL forum.

No slipping so far. What kind of grease do you recommend?

it's usually solvable by replacing the throw out bearing and or the seal.

Only problem with replacing that bearing is you have to take out the trans as if you're replacing the clutch. OUCH!!

Is the sound part of the pedal movement? Or part of the clutch engagement? Does it make the same sound with the engine off?

Could be many things depending on...

Engine not running: old pressure plate, clutch pedal and return spring, clutch master and/or slave cylinder (if you have a hydraulic actuated clutch).

Engine running: same as above, clutch release bearing.

Normally when you do a clutch, you do it all. Main seal, transmission input shaft seal, clutch release bearing, clutch assembly. Well I do anyway.

Engine is off and only occurs when I press in (squeak sound) then release (squeak sound). I am hoping to narrow it down to "clutch pedal and return spring, clutch master and/or slave cylinder". The sound resembles plastic stretching.

the squeaking sound you described actually come from the pedal cylinder, you can try to apply lubrication like silicon spray or replace with a new one. Mine squeak only because I put 75 miles every other month lol.

Paul, our star master mechanic here in Nawth Jerzy (my Mr. Scott), recommends using an original Honda bearing, not the one that comes with the clutch kit to help avoid this nuisance.
