P0717 Transmission While Driving

2007 Acura TL Type S 5AT Code P0717
Hey everybody got this code while driving, then check engine and vsa light came on... was going 40mph... and it downshifted all the way down, also D letter was flashing. Drove about 3 blocks from my house before this happened, drove back 3 blocks slowly parked the car... contacted my Honda Tech she said... replace Part 28820-RWE-003 ... common problems on these transmissions? I remember there being a write up somewhere about 3 shift solenoids being replaced somewhere? anyone have the part numbers so I can do all this at the same time? or if you guys have any input to my issue?

A P0717 will result from an electrical failure of that sensor circuit. Meaning you have either a bad sensor (do a resistance check), or open wires going to and from the sensor to the PCM. If those check out with a multimeter, the PCM will require replacement.

P0717 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal

Replaced that part in about 30 minutes took a picture of the bad part... for anyone else having the issue. Been since Sunday over 200 miles runs good, plus not so sluggish anymore.

Hell with all the corrosion on the pins, it's no wonder the sensor failed. Looks like the input shaft speed sensor...

It was easy to replace, Remove Battery, Remove complete battery tray and you should be able to access the sensor in front of the transmission by bottom radiator hose. Ive ran about 1700 miles... and this problem occured again... ended up replacing the counter speed sensor 3rd oil pressure switch and both 4 pressure switch... still no luck ... giving up took it in to the dealership... see what they side.. use the car for school...

i just got the same issue. VSA light, CEL and blinking D. i can still drive it but it wont shift past 3rd gear and has a very hard downshift into first. checked code and it was P0717. i'm looking to replace the speed sensor but i haven't found many threads about this. there are no real answers that i can find for this.

evilTLS; did you ever fix the issue?

I had a similar problem 2 years ago. VSA, CEL, and blinking D came on. The TL will not shift out of 2nd gear and I was not able to shift it to park unless I turn off the car. It turns out to be the VSS. Replaced that sensor and the problem was gone. Not too sure if you're having the same issue.

i had P0717 and P0158, and flashing D and VSA Light and Triangle with exclamation inside. Replaced Transmission Speed Sensor and also Replaced pressure sensors 3rd and 4th gears. Cleared all codes. Drove 45-50 mph. Worked great. Then 5 minutes later. Same issue returned. Car dropped down to 3rd gear high rpm to maintain 50mpg speed. Lights back on dash. Check engine again. VSA. Blinking D - transmission fluid is the recommended D4 and 3 months old in transmission. Acura has 364,000 miles. Runs excellent. HELP
