When accelerating my auto tl makes a spooling noise. Almost sounds like a turbo spooling but not turbo here

Any suggestions on what it could be?

 

transmission whine?

 

Yeah could possibly be trans. anyone have anything similar to this noise? Is it normal?

 

Power steering pump? Does it happen when it is cold? Did you ever have the o-ring on the power steering pump replaced?

 

What is a spooling noise? Is it exacerbated by the turning of the steering wheel? If so it's the power steering

 

its not the powering steering. it accelerates with engine rpm. Power steering not making noise or problems turning. I believe its something else.

 

My 02 Type S also does the same thing...I believe its tranny noise

 

My car makes a noise on acceleration as well.
I hear it at around 35-40+ when I lightly press on the accelerator but when I lift off it goes away
I just had my transmission replaced but I took it back to get the noise checked out.
Travis thinks it's the differential in the transmission.

 

If it sounds like a turbo sucking in air then Have you or had a shop recently replaced your air filter? Kinda sounds like the top your air box isn't tightened down or the box or intake tube has a big hole in it. If never here'd of a tranny making a noise that sounds like turbo spooling...take a video with sound and post it up that would make it a lot easier to point you in the right direction

 

It might be low steering fluid. Just check to make sure you arent running low.

 

mine does the same thing, it does sound like a turbo. It has done it for about a year or so. (08TL 69K mi)

 

When accelerating, mine makes a sound like a turbine spooling up, like a jet engine or helicopter. I like this part of the aural experience . It has to be from the transmission, because iirc its frequency changes with gear shifts.

My TL has been making the same sound, ever since I can remember.

 

My tranny makes a kind of whistle. I have been in 2 others that do the same. Mechanic said tranny. Its normal

 

Mine does the same, I read somewhere that replacing the ATF can reduce the noise.
