Sluggish after intake?
Sluggish after intake?
So I had a custom made thermo wrap intake done to my car.....07 auto .....it's a 3 inch intake piping they used and has a 3 inch k&n filter....its short, the filter ends right behind the battery...
So idk if it's me but after I got it done, now when coming from a stop and starting off, when I try and give it a good amount of gas, it feels more I guess restricted...it'll be like that for like a second or 2 then it'll pick up! Any ideas, should I have gotten the one that goes into the bumper?
Do I need to upgrade to a 4inch piping??
When I have time I'm going to put the OEM one back and see what it does...

you went from a stock "somewhat" cai to a short ram which loses power. go back to stock or put in a true CAI.
like alex mentioned, you're going to lose some bottom end but it shouldn't be that noticeable. i would go for an aem v2 it's the most common intake for our cars

You're sitting at a stop sign or light and your engine air is hot and not moving. When you accelerate, your short ram intake sucks up that hot air and you have crappy performance until you get the cold air flowing again. That's my take on it.
Short ram intakes rob you of power in a TL engine bay. Get something that moves the filter further away from the engine like a true CAI. Even then it is debatable on these forums whether or not a CAI will give you any gains at all. I'm one of the believers that the stock TL intake is a semi CAI and gives you almost the same power as an aftermarket one, so why spend a bunch of money on something that will only give you the noise. There are those that get one just for the noise though.

You probably did this:
Accuracy is important, particularly for the pressure readings. The MAP sensor should be connected as intimately as practical to the intake manifold. Long, narrow hoses and tee fittings in the path to the sensor slow the response of the pressure sensor, resulting in poor airflow determination. The delayed pressure response will result in poor throttle response and poor control over air/fuel ratio whenever the intake manifold pressure changes.

You got super short intake (compared to OEM), you lose low rpm performance and gain higher rpm performance. Not so surprising. Also the hot air mentioned. When moving above 60mph, most cars vents engine bay through the lower opening so underhood temperature isn't hot enough to really hurt performance. But when you're not moving fast enough the bay does get hot. Too hot for engine to perform optimally.
