Side mirrors

Decided to replace both side mirrors glass. Easy to do. Turned out well. Used silicone around the new glass edges to keep water from causing this again.

I don't think this is caused by water because I have seen some start at the middle of the glass. As long as you don't leave your mirror heater running, it shouldn't burn into a brown color

I rarely ever use the heaters and only drive 5 minutes to and from work. Someone has told me before it comes from the moisture getting in the sides. But either way, I can understand if the middle gets burned first and thanks for the advice.

Poor quality. I have changed mine 5 years ago and nothing happens so far. I bought it from company that cut the mirrors from provided pattern. I remember they even had wrong pattern for 07-08 and I had to send my mirrors.

Is there a difference in patterns between type-s and base 07-08? If so, that might have been your issue.

Not sure. I ordered mirrors marked as 04-08 and they didn't fit. It possible they had wrong pattern.

That's OK. Paul, our star master mechanic here in Nawth Jerzy is Polish, so he'll figure it out.

oooh..... was the silicone you used safe for mirrors? I'd hate to think the very item you used around the edges would actually attack the mirror backing and cause the very same problem you were trying to fix.

This is what I used.
I've read that if you put large globs, it requires long drying/curing times. It's during that time when the chemical reactions are more likely to damage silver backing. Nor did the caulk have that acidic smell. Fingers crossed. Barely even waited half hour before it dried clear. If the backing begins flaking off in the near future then I will admit the mistake and buy new glass and use mirror bostik. Check into it if you want.
