Emblem Plastic in Airbag: Making Noise
Emblem Plastic in Airbag: Making Noise
I know what is inside my airbag. It’s the plastic end of the steering wheel emblem. I was replacing my steering wheel emblem, when the plastic backings had fell in (I’m guessing due to the heat or glue used to originally attach it).
After turning the steering wheel (or any movement of it), I hear the sound of the melted plastic moving around inside of the airbag.
I’m guessing that the plastic is at the bottom of the air bag, between the outside where the emblem is and between the inside where the bag is compressed.
Does anybody know if this can be removed from the air bag? I’d prefer not having to buy a whole new airbag because melted plastic from the old emblem fell in when trying to take it OUT.

The steering wheel will make an annoying sound like popcorn is stuck when the car is being moved forward/backward (hard enough to move the melted plastic inside) and when turning left or right.
Eventually, the sound gets louder and the steering wheel feels a bit rougher: this is because the plastic is now stuck between the back of the steering wheel and the base. You can take a credit card and slide it behind your steering wheel in the .5'' gap and slide out the melted plastic.
Mine came out piece after piece after a twenty minute drive and eventually that was it.
