Should I do Service?

My TL has only 12000 miles and the service shows B1, which include break and suspension check etc - cost $260.

Should I do that or what?

It seems to me cost a little bit more than expected for a 1 year new car.

In addition to acura, do you think other dealer can do it for less.

do it yourself or look in the phone book-auto repairing- for a small ad with pic of acura/honda in it

Its just looking at things, change the cabin air filter and change the oil
Look in the owner book for what needs to be done
The brakes are probably fine

Call Acura and see if you need to take it in for the recalls-1 800-382-2238x5
need your VIN

Save your money. There is an easy DIY on how to change your cabin filter. As to the other maintenace take a look under your car and see if there is anything leaking. Your done. That will be 5 bucks! lol

Good luck

Price for B1 Service

STOP!! GETTING RIPPED OFF

If B1 costs more than ~$60 with the "standard" Synthetic-Blend oil, you are getting ripped off.

PERIOD!

That's Tire Rotation, Oil Change, New Oil Filter and a "12/18/24-point" Vehicle Inspection (or whatever they call it where you go).

The "24-point" inspection is STANDARD and FREE/INCLUDED at 99% of the decent place you'd go for an Oil Change.

Seriously, it's not about, "I don't have time to .... blah, blah, blah" or "I'd rather spend the extra money .... blah, blah, blah" or "I have enough money, so .... blah, blah, blah". If you pay for something that most competent places give away for free, that's just plain fucking stupid and no one here can help you.

Factors that will Increase or Decrease cost of Service:

- You bring your own Oil = Decreased Price
- You bring your own Oil Filter = Decreased Price

- You ask for Full Synthetic Oil = Increased Price

- After reading this post, you're still a dumb ass and pay for an "inspection" = Increase.

If you do this DIY, you'll get a better filter and FULL Synthetic Oil for ~$30 and maybe an hour or so of your time.

BTW - The DIY is SIMPLE. The slowest newbie on the forum can do it in a couple hours, MAX, including cleaning and waxing your wheels.

Here's a link to an Oil Change DIY/Check List with Pics:

After reading your suggestion, I contact a few honda dealers. The cost for B1 service is around $160.

Then I contact a firestone shop where I did all my old honda cars' service (and Lexus alignemnt) there. They said they will do all things free for B1 (for good customer), including tire rotation but chargeing $20 or so for oil change.

Do you think firestone is good at Acura?

I plan to replace my Lexus RX350 tires there. The same brand of tire cost $143 minus 10% = $128 each but cost more than $180 in lexus dealer. That is more than $200 saving (other discount added) for the tire.

Look at the owner book maitenance list- do what visual inspection you can and have the oil changed, let someone look at the underside of the car for torn cv boots, leaking shocks etc
save the receipt

dealer always charges more for tires than a tire store

Check tirerack.com price on what you want- take a printout to the tire store and ask for a price match
There is a lot of $$ wiggle room in tires

I agree 100% with bearcat

I actually just got an email from my stealership this week that they were having a "winter special". Tire rotation, oil change, and inspection of brakes, and something else for $199. LMFAO! No way in hell would I pay $199 for an oil change and a tire rotation. Then they will "inspect" and tell you you need to replace whatever they "inspected". Yep, that is getting the woman treatment right there, luckily I am too smart for that!

IMO you should find yourself a good, reputable honda mechanic that does work on the side. Maybe even talk to one of the techs at your dealership that you know has been there for a while. I have a guy I use that works on only Honda/Acura and has done so for 16+ years. Ask around your area and find someone you trust.

Charles12,

Firestone, Good Year, STS, Mavis Tire Rack are all in the same tire business. I dont think they can mess up on your tire rotation. Although I have some reservation regarding going to those places for a Wheel balance unless they use Hunter "Road Force" Balancer. This is the same machine Acura Dealers use. See link to find a place near you that uses this machine http://www.gsp9700.com/pub/search/findgsp9700.cfm

20 bucks for a conventional oil change sounds normal.

Just my 0.02. I would never buy tires from a dealership. They will rip you off. You can find better deals at Mavis, STS and Tire Rack. Good luck!

your dealer doesnt know jack shit about tires, they only know oem tires are replaced with oem tires....your oem tires are not always the best choice of tire for your car....

tire companies know tires.....

It seems to me that for tire rotation no balance is needed.

I did my life time aligment at firestone for my lexus car which cost $190 (with discount cost only $120). I can do the aligment every 7000 miles. At lexus it costs $100 each time. I talked to a technician in lexus dealer after that. He said it is perfect OK doing the alignment and replacing tire in firestone. No thing is special for these part of the car./

I know you can rotate your tires without balance but I prefer to have them rotated and balance since its been 5000 miles since the last balance. I bought tires from Good Year and I have the free balance and rotate for the life of the tire. Sometimes it gets out of wack driving on the NY streets.

But to each is own.

I checked the machine you mentioned, firestone has no such machine. Is it critical to use that machine instead of theirs?

From the lexus forum, people posted coupon for firestone tires (35% off). So the tire for 235/55/18 Dueler H/L Alenza costs only $93 each.

I do not see how to attached the coupon here. In case you need it, go to

http://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx33...-attached.html

good luck.

Not critical. It was only my suggestion. If you're comfortable with your Lexus dealer or the Firestone Co you deal with please by all means give them your business. Finding a good and honest mechanic is not always easy. The more business you give them I think the better service you will get. Good Luck!

Jawbone,

I noticed that you have a BMW. Is BMW more fun to drive than TL. I like the TL engine sound (but not the rattles) it is fun to drive when compared to Lexus.

TL's seem to be senstitive to good tire balance. I'd find a Road Force machine or not do it at all.

I did my B1 serive in firestone. It cost me only $40 for oil change (sythetic) and all checking is free, including the tire rotation and brake inspection. I checked the list the inspected, which is the same list as B1 service suggested from acura. The technician in firestone however forgot (does not know how to?) exchange the tire pressure sensor bt front and rear tires.

Anybody knows how to do this?

Why do you need the TPMS exchanged? The sensors are the same all the way around. If by chance you need to re-install the sensors, all you need to do is basically screw it in and make sure it's secure. It's very basic.

Charles,

I love my BMW. It has a totally different drive then the TL. Not bashing the TL at all. I think they are both great cars but if I had to pick one or the other to drive I would pick my BMW hands down. My wife turned in her lease for an 05Lexus GS and I have to admitt that car is smooth. The suspension is top notch. It floats like a dream.
