Semi-high pitched sound from belt area

Its been going on for bout 1 year. It doesn't affect the drivability at all.
It happens every cold start.
It happens for about 5min into driving and goes away wen the car is nice and warm.
I've tried belt dressing ALL over the belts. It only works for 5-10secs and comes right back.
Its not a HIGH pitched squeeling like a loose or warn belt.
Its more of a chirping like from a bird.
It goes away while idleing after 1min of startng the car. But start chirping again onece I accelerate or rev. It gets a tad bit worse wen I tuen the AC on.

Ask me more questions if needed

Not much on using belt dressing of any kind, but if it's applied to the belt and it becomes quiet for a short period, I'd say it's the belt. You can alwayas remove the belt and check the idler to see if it has any play.

But if it was the belts, wud the sound continued even after the cars been driven for a while and warmed up?

As you have already applied belt dressing, when the engine is running and the belt is making the noise, spray some lubricant directly onto the belt. Stop? It's the belt.
Belt noises can come and go and if contaminated with antifreese, they'll never get back to normal. If it's old just do a replacement, fairly inexpensive and an easy change.

Damn. It may need a change. I bought the car at 20k and have never changed it, I don't know wen or if its been ever changed by the prev owner. Please ignore my ignorance but which belt? And don't I have to do the timing oe sumthing? I'm pretty hands on and I've wrenched on my integra and knew it like the back of my hand, but wen it comes to my TL I have no idea. Is there a DIY anywhere?

Well that didn't work too well. But I found something out. The sqeek/whine is a lot more noticeable from under the car/motor. Up top (from the bay) its pretty faint but from underneeth its a lot more louder. I read somewhere in here about a similar sound from the exhuast piping. Cud this be my problem?

Remember I mentioned the belt dressing, I do not recall if the sound went off wen I sprayed the belt dressing. The sound comes and goes so that's probably y I was under the impression the belt dressing worked.

The sound is more noticable from under the car and the sound is only at 1000-1200
Its NOT an eeeeeeeeeeee. Sound like one long whistle
Its more of an e e e e e e e e e e sound

And remember. It only on a cold/semi cold start, and goes away after the car has been driven for like 10mins

Once I start the car the sound comes on. But it dies down to nothing while the car is in idle for like 2mins after starting (warmed up a lil) but once I put it in drive and hit 1100 rpm it comes on. Or same thing wen I turn the AC on while idling it will also come on. Btw the car has 44k on the odometer.

Cmon, someone help.

You'll need to understand; diagnosing a mechanical problem while sitting in front of a PC is difficult enough, but the diagnosis of a particular sound is only a guess. Get belt spray and with the engine at idle, spray the serpentine belt, and as tated earlier, if it stops replace the belt. Although tight quarters, simple as moving the idler to release the tension, remove the belt and install the new one, but make certain it's installed correctly. If there is contaminants on the pullies, wipe them down.

Have you had the O-Ring replaced in your power steering pump yet?

Ok the belt dressing helped a lil. I say that bcuz usually wen the car is idling and I turn the AC on the sound happens. But with the belt dressing on and the ac on it doesn't happen. BUT wen I rev to 1000 the sound comes on but its a lil softer. Overall it "helped" but didn't sovle it. Any other suggestions?

AHH HAA!! I think I found the culprit! So I cranked up the ac. Put a brick on the gas pedal so the RPMs is at 1100. Got under the car and started listening. The sound is DEFFINATLY not comming from the belt. It was comming from the exhaust piping (jpipe and cat area) so I start tapping/pushing all kinds on heat sheilds and what not. Finally I came across a black sheild protecting the passenger axle. Tapped it the sond stopped. Started again so I pushed and put pressure on on it and the sound stopped. I held it there and the car came quiet let it go and the sound came back. BANGED it with a hammer and the sound stopped. So I'm deffinatly assuming its that sheild. Ima go back under there wen the motor is nice and cool (shit gets hott quick!) And start tightening a bolt that looked pretty loose wen I tapped the sheild. (Crossing my finger) hope its the fix

I have this exact problem,
Chirps when engine is cold and started; chirps steadily and increases rate of chirp with slight tap of gas, Goes away after 5 min's of driving or when car is warmed up.

it may possibly be your tensioner...

Ive had the same kinda noise, but its prolly one of the bearings inside the idler/tensioner that is going bad... it may get worse over time... and it does get annoying!!!... its gonna sound like you have a supercharger we you accelerate...

squeak / whistling

Hey all -
I just read this thread through, and have a similar problem:
I just took the car in to the dealership (Im under warranty), and the first thing they did was the O-ring (obviously). That wasn't the only problem though..the whine from the PS was different from the squeaky sound that I think SevenK is talking about. The dealership replaced the whole belt, along with the top sided pulley. I took it home, and idled it in the driveway, and sure enough, there was that sound again. It sounds like a ball bearing issue to me, but I just can't be sure. I am taking the car back on Monday, the 7th of March, and will let everyone know what they decide to do.

Thanks everyone for sharing..this forum is so useful!

Update

So, after getting everything re-installed, and still hearing the noise, I took the car back to the dealership yesterday. They replaced the main belt (I think it's the serpentine) and that fixed it right up.

Apparently, when they replaced the pulley, they used a bad belt, so it didn't really fix the noise.

so,
New pulley, New belt. Works great.
Oh, and if you haven't yet, definitely get the Power Steering O-Ring fix as well, especially if it gets below freezing in your area.

sorry to revive an old thread but I'm having the same issue...

I have an 06 TL and just turned 49,xxx miles and recently this morning I noticed the bird chirping/cricket sound. It's around mid 40s degrees here in NY but once the car warmed up after 5 mins the sound stopped. The car is not under warranty so im assuming I have to pay to get those worked out. Anyone have any ideas how much?

Thanks in advance all...

It's cool, and I'm glad you did..because I seemed to have forgotten to really finish up this thread and tell everyone what happened afterwards.

It turned out to not be the belt at all - I truly think the stealership was trying to avoid fixing what was really bad - because I still have the 100K mile full coverage warranty. Anyway...

Turns out it was the Power Steering PUMP. Not the fluid hose, or the belt at all. It's actually starting to act up every now and again, but not as noisy as it's ever been. I spent about 4 visits to 2 different dealerships to get this nailed down. I hope that everyone can benefit from my frustrations!
