Same problem again, any mechanics reading?
Same problem again, any mechanics reading?
Well my brother was complaining about brake noise on the tl(The same complaint I have had since day 1)
I drove it on last weekend and see it happening once again. I bring it to acura, and for the third time(this is an 2005 tl auto, with a little over 20,000 mile on it, and they once again had to resurface the rotors and replace brake pads.
I don not race or abuse this vehicle. Three times to cut rotors on a car this new is ridiculous. It was done under warranty, but I cant get any answers. All they do is stonewall me, and ask if the problems fixed
The problem always goes away for a week or two weeks after they recut and then the noises and vibrations return.
I now see, whenever I go over any little rut in the road, my cruise control light goes off and on also. (This is since they recut rotors agan)
Can anyone tell me what is happening? Why cant I make a simple turn(expecially left turn) from a traffic light, without having my computer stability controls including abs go on, and make the brakes vibrate and make noise?
Much regards

Sort of like someone with an ulcer, taking rolaids without going to a doctor.
And like you, large pebbles(LOL) kicks in the abs, vibrates the pedals, squeals the brakes, and kicks in the stability controls. Unbelievable.

So you say that they cut your rotors three times? You are really not supposed to cut the rotors more than twice on a car, because it takes off too much material, this is probably why your brakes keep on vibrating because the rotors are so thin, that they just keep on warping once they get soo hot. This is common on honda's and acura's it often has to do with your driving habits, such as slamming on your brakes all the time and getting them soo hot that they warp, if you slowly apply your brakes and come to a stop less heat is produced. I would ask them to warranty some new rotors, since you have been in several times for service for the same problem, as for the indicator lights who knows what is causing that they will have to scan for dtc's if any and diagnose it from there.
Put in a call to Acura customer care at 1-800- 382-2238 x 5
Describe the situation- they can look up any other reports of similar problem
If the dealer has cut the rotors down to minimum spec- they owe you NEW rotors
because you had plenty of metal on there before they started!
If they really did turn them- the before and after specs MUST be written down and the runout of the rotor checked as well.
Sounds like the real problem is in the steering rack or ball joints or axles- binding or similar
I once had an RX7 that would throw the rear wheels out of balance- turned out to be DRIVESHAFT- sucker would shake enough to mess other things up

Are they tightening the lug nuts with the air gun? If so, they're morons.
The lug nuts are supposed to be tightened to 80 ft-lbs.
They should be using an item called a torque stick.

flatfoot - Is the problem that the ABS and VSA engage when you aren't driving anywhere near the limits of traction of the tires?
I haven't experimented with the TL, but on all the other cars I've had, it's normal for the ABS or VSA to make a grinding, vibrating kind of noise when it is applying the brakes. It's the system pulsing the brakes many times a second.
Maybe the dealer assumed you meant the brakes were squealing, so they resurfaced the rotors and put in new pads.
The real problem might be in the ABS or VSA system, maybe an intermittent faulty wheel sensor that thinks a wheel is slipping when it isn't. A faulty sensor might also be consistent with temporarily disabling the cruise control, since it should be designed to shut off when it senses wheel slippage on ice.
You may wish to have the dealer check the ABS/VSA system, especially the wheel sensors.
Good Luck, and let us know what happens.
