Angry Rust on the hood of my 08 TL-S. What should I do?

One rust spot is about an inch long and the other is just a small dot of rust. The are located just in front of the windshield (out of the way from any rock chips). The car is an 08 and should not be rusting.

Would these rust spots be covered under the Acura Warranty? Would the dealer tell me that they are not liable?

I don't want them to get worse and I don't want to spend a shit load of $ to have them fixed if it is a manufactured defect.

Thank you for your advice and response...

Check your manual I believe the Canadian cars have a rust warranty. In the states it's 10 years unlimited mileage for rust IIRC.

I don't have my manual here at work but I will check it out later... thanks. If there is 10 yrs. unlimited mileage warranty, do you think they would replace the hood or just the damaged area? I am worried about the paint matching. Thx.

I think you will find its for rust perforation not just surface rust. Was that there when you got the car? Did you buy it new? To me the only ways chips could happen there is it bring hit with a snow brush or someone opening the hood when the wipers are in the up position.

I brought the car new and I never noticed it until yesterday. I have surface rust spots on the car that will come off when I clay bar it. This rust is different. I can rub my finger over it and feel the roughness. I don't think it could be from opening the hood against the wipers... I can't i;magine ever doing that but you never know. I will check and see if the wipers line up with the rust.

I will take it in to the service department this weekend and see what they say.

I just went out to check and see if the rust was caused by contact with the windshield wiper and there is no way possible that they are related.

Has anybody had 1st hand experience with this. Would Acura replace or repair the hood. New would be great but maybe if they repair I can have all the other chips fixed/repainted at the same time...

You should talk them into giving you the remainder of the touch up pen they will be using

I have seent his before too, best way is to get the Rustoleum Rust remover, let it soak, wipe it off, and then touch it up so it doesnt spread.

- No way this is covered under warranty. Warranty if for Rust THROUGH. *Maybe* they'd touch it up as good will. New hood? Yeah, if you've got the money for one, they'd do it.

Although it could be a manufacturing defect, what you'd probably get from the dealer would be something like, "Oh those are chips from road debris. We can't cover that."

What you need to do is find a way to rmove the rust that's there, then the chip(s) with touch up paint, then, after if cures, wax/seal the area.

Exactly. It has to literally perforate to the point there is a hole/holes in a body panel, and there is no way in hell that will ever happen to any car within five years of it coming off the assembly line. So in a nutshell, that warranty is a total joke. I doubt any manufacturer has ever paid a nickel because of it.

Oops, sorry for the necropost. Forgot I stumbled on this thread when searching.

acura isnt going to do much, they might just offer to touch it up. I would do it myself, take the rust off and touch it up. Dont want to paint the whole hood for these small chips.
