Road Noise...Very Loud

05 TL. Put new tires on at 30K. Installed Fuzion ZRi 235/45/R17. Wife was getting ready for a road trip at 38k miles So I changed the oil and Rotated the tires. I noticed instantly there was a some noise. She went on her way.
The road trip was 4000 miles. FL to uppper Michigan and back. Now car has 42k miles.

Well the road noise is terrible. I did have the tires at 38lbs(fuel milage). I just lowered to 30lb for a quick test. Did quite down some. I could swear its a bearing worn but I dont know.
I had a corvette with Runflats and at 20k miles those tires sounded sick.

Anyone else tires sound bad at 12-14k miles????

Factory warranty is coming around quick. Should I have it checked out??

Thanks
Dennis

Are you saying that there was no problem from 30k miles (when you put new tires on) to 38k, (right before you rotated them)? This sounds really strange, I haven't heard of something like this before. I would definately have it checked out, since like you said warranty will expire next year or in a few thousand miles.

Yep right after rotation I went around the block. I noticed it was loud. I then had teh wife take it for a quick drive. She said it was noisy but she said its ben like that.

I did notice the rears(were fronts) are worn more than the now fronts. Maybe this weekend I will swap them around. Seems Another storm(Hurrican Hanna) is headed my way

bow, where in FL are you? As for the tires that were on the rear, check them on the inner edge for the wear on them. It might be worn down more than the outside edge due to a suspension issue with the bump-stops. Also try switching the tires back and see the result.

I was in the Cape Coral area(Ft MYers) Now I am in Vero Beach(East Side) I miss the west coast boating.

I will swap them this weekend (depending on weather) and see if it changes. It noise is anything different then its in the tires. I guess these tire will only last 20k or so.

It's probably the tires causing the noise rather than the car.

The website says the Fuzion ZRi tires are also directional- did you do an X-rotation or a front-to-rear and vice versa?
Check to make sure the tires are all going in the proper direction (there should be arrows on the sidewall for direction of travel).

The TL seems to be extra sensitive to tire selection and alignment. I had some BFG G-force KDW-2s on it and they were awesome performance wise but road noise was so bad, passengers would ask what was wrong with my car. Downgraded to the Sports and all is fine but they are getting louder with age and wear. Other than tire selection, make sure the alignment is spot on and there's no cupping. I had to take my TL to 3 different alignment shops to get it properly aligned and a couple of them had 3-4 TLs there at the time.

Nice username, btw. Corvette owner?

Saw the pics of your vettes, loved them. I am a Corvette enthusiast also. I used to own a 2006 Black/Black C6 Coupe with 3LT Package and Navigation. Got a speeding ticket so I sold it. Soon hopefully I will buy another one. Want to get a silver one this time or dark red.....

update- I rotated the tire back. More worn in front. Had a much quiter noise. Verified the issue. So Rotated back.
Under close inspection I would estimate in about 2-3k more miles I will be on the ware bars. So maybe 15k miles out of these tires. No hard driving . Wifes daily driver.
Will look into another brand when I have to purchase a new set.
I am still wanting some A-spec 18' Chrome look wheels.
Cant fine a decent set under 1500.00.

Item. Anyone else having a issue with site remembering your user name/password. Since this new look. I have to log in every time. ...Yes I check the remember me. I have about 20 forums I am members of and this is the only one having a issue.
Thanks

Did ALOT of research and gave ALOT of thought into replacing the tires on my 2005 6-mt that had 34,000 miles on it. The Tire Rack has staff that drive on different tires everyday on their test track. I called that company about 8 times over a period of a week or so. Speaking to a different tech each time. I told each tech that I was looking for the quietest and best riding tire they offered. Seven of the eight techs I spoke with during that time told me that the tire that best met my standards was a Bridgestone Turanza w/serenity. Now, with 39,200 miles showing. I believe I made the right decision. These tires have met my expectations and they appear to be wearing fine.

By the way, I run 37lbs in the front and 34lbs. in the rear. Have never gotten less than 30 miles per gallon on premium Texaco fuel during this time, but, I do drive like grand papa most of the time, not always.

One more thing, I live in a very rural area of Tn., in a town of 3,400 folks, so not much stop and go.

Since you are in FL you don't really need an all season tire, I would highly recommend the Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS. Those things are quiet, used to have them on my 19s (wish they had my size in 20s ) Super quiet AND have a 400 treadwear rating (at least thats what they were for the 19s)
