tranny fluids drian and refill completed with pic/ but i have question

last night i spent 3 hours doing my first tranny fluid replacement with amzoil the 3x3 method. but at first i drain the old fluids out i messured it and it a lil bit more then 3 quarts that with some of it spilled out. as it mention on some of the information from some of the post it says "it only drain 3 quart of it 7.5" so why mine drain out more then 3qts?. with the three quarts i add then drain it come out a lil bit short of 3 qts. i bought the car from the dealer a year ago and with 42k on it now it has 60k. would you guys think that they over fill the fluids? anyway i check the dip stick after i done it show a thin line of tranny fluids between the two holes and more fluids at the end of the stick. so im assuming it prefect. but yet i should of have check the dip stick before i drain it at first time. also at the same time before i drop the car i do an oil change too. it save some time.

here are the pics:
oil tranny fluids

Fill bolt with oil jet kit installed. it sit on top of the fill bolt/ if you dont have the oil jet kit you'll see your fill bolt.

oil jet kit removed

Drain plug/ remove the under splash guart and you should see it. it in front of the car mark with blue collor on mine. i used 3/8 drive to remove the bolt

Long funnle nose to fill in new fluids. in my case i don't have to remove the fill bolt because it have hole in for the jet kit. if you look at the right side of the pic you'll the long silver thing that point up. that the jet kit i pull out from fill plug.

nice diy write! Here is a little extra info

What normally happens is: you get approx 3 qts to drain out the first time- sometimes a little more- assuming you warmed the trans with 10 minute drive
Add new 3 qts and drive it 5 minutes, shifting thru each gear from Park and N- D1-2345 and back down to 1, stop- shift into park and reverse- drive it back on the ramps and open drain plug
Should get ~3 qts-to drain again- replace with same amount of new and drive same procedure
More than 5 minutes drive does not help and gets it realllly hot under the car
The shifting thru each gear to push old fluid out of hiding places and its replaced with new fluid as it does that--thats key
You just want to use each gear- in motion for the moving forwards or reverse gears
to PUMP fluid in the system
Then a 3rd drain and refill-

Check the owner book - my gen2 says drive 15 minutes cruising on freeway- then get off freeway and stop- Park- Stop engine- remove dipstick and wipe clean
Insert fully- remove- should be between the full and low dots, the fluid reads higher once hot hot from driving- dont want to overfill- thats BAD news!

You used Honda ZR-1 atf trans fluid right?

dex3 will make short work of the remaining life in your trans!

If under warranty - stay with Hondas stuff- those well past caring about warranty-
plenty of threads about ams---

good write up. i will be doing this soon as i just hit the 50k mark. ill most likely go with the Honda ATF, i drive her gentle. i am in debate about the 3 times fill drain method, that cash adds up, it all depends on the color of the fluid.....

the REASON to do 9 qts is the trans holds 7.3- you want to push the old fluid thru the system and out-
Mixing old and new is a waste of money IMO- if you want fresh fluid you want all fresh fluid right?
You are talking 60 bucks- less than a tank of gas- a weeks worth of starbucks or smoothies
Would you change 3 spark plugs, or 2 quarts of engine oil... and call it done?

at first i first debating and going to use zr1 atf, but i was thinking that some people pay $199+ to get it done at the dealer why not do a 3x3 with amsoil. and it cost less for me to do it with 3x3 and better fluids. total price is $139 thats with 9 qts for amsoil atf and 5 qts amsoil motor oil and filter.

driving it 5 minutes and using each gear is what makes the old fluid get pushed forward thru hidden part and out.

Similar to flushing brake fluid- new stuff displaces old

There are ziners running amsoil in trans- all past warranty--- so far so good!
