Road noise at 40+ mph

I recently had my car in for some warranty work. Engine and tranny need to be dropped out. As soon as I got my car back I noticed a noise at highway speeds that wasn't there before. It sounds like a 4x4 with mud terrain tires. It gets louder with speed and isn't noticeable under 35 mph. The tires were rotated and alignment done. At first I thought it was the tires, and dealer agreed. Now I have 800 miles on it and no change. Tires look fine, no cupping. I rotated them again to see if it made a change in pitch or anything. It didn't.

Any ideas? Maybe a bad wheel bearing? It doesn't change when turning though.

you had your engine and tranny taken out and now you have road noise?
yeah....something tells me otherwise

Please describe your issue.

the first issue was so generalized and broad no one answered. lol

if you explain whats going on; maybe. just maybe some one can chime in.

Obviously I didn't read the whole post. Apologies.

In my case, the last thing done to my car was a tire rotation and a balance of all 4 tires. All of a sudden i start hearing excessive road noise.. Sounds like there's something stuck on one of the tires. I took them to get re-balanced (I thought that was the problem.) and nothing. Same noise.. Went to NTB and they told me i had uneven tire wear cause they think my socks are bad.. I doubt it's that cause I recently (6 months ago) took my car to Hamilton Honda for a timing belt job, realignment and bunch of other stuff. They would have told me something.

One thing i did notice was a clip or something is missing from when Hamilton changed my in-cabin filter. There's a gap on the right behind the glove box. Could that be it?

No, i think the missing clip is not letting the dash snug up against the car properly. Thus letting in excessive road noise since it's right next to the firewall.

Just a thought, i'm not an expert on this stuff.

thanks for describing your issue.
can you see uneven wear on your tires?

I think NTB might be on to something here.
if the tires are wearing unevenly, it can cause road noise.

however; their diagnosis in the shocks might be wrong.

Thanks for the feedback. I looked and i doesn't look odd to me. I had the place that changed my oil look at the tires and 3 of them were at 5 and one was at 7.. Don't know why since i rotate them regularly... Just odd..

I doubt it's the shocks too.

the lower the tread; the louder the tire is going to be

^not necessarily justin, if the tire is perfectly worn through all sides, then road noise would not increase. noise from tires is caused by cupping, feathering, or any uneven wear which causes uneven contact at high speeds. for example, if you bought a brand new tire and shave it down to 2/32(like inaccurate has done before), it would behave just as well as full tread if not better in terms of performance and road noise
