Replaced rear rotors/pads...rubbing noise

I just replaced the rear rotors and pads on my 2008 TL, and now there is a metallic rubbing noise from the back wheels. This sound is like one of the pads is barely touching the rotor, even though I am not breaking. The sound happens whether I'm accelerating or coasting but is most prominent at 10 to 20 mph. I am not sure if it is because we had to loosen the emergency brake assembly to get the rotor off and didn't set it back properly or if there is something else we are missing. Any suggestions?

You didn't place a pad in backwards, did you? They would cause it. Also, check the heatshield to make sure it's not touching the rotor.

What kind of rotors/pads did you get? Some slotted rotors cause pads to rub and takes time to wear them in.

I had this same thing happen when i swapped my rear rotors, it was the ebrake shoes rubbing on the inside of the rotor. I would try and do the e-brake adjustment, the one where you access the nut from the center console if you already adjusted them from the rotor access hole.

It might just be the new pads though, sometimes they are thick and need some time to wear even.

Pardon my ignorance but do you absolutely need to adjust the parking brake after you replace the rotors? If the ebrake was released when the rotor was changed is this step still necessary?

Not really necessary, all depend on the wear of the brake shoes. As long as you are not driving with your hand brake on all the time you shouldn't need to adjust them when replacing the rear rotors.

Great thanks for the insight. I just did my rear rotors and I didnt want to go through the trouble of taking the wheels off if I didnt have to.
