Rattling sound in cold engine.
Every morning, or just when it is cold outside (below 60 degree Fahrenheit) the engine in my 2004 Acura TL starts to rattle and shake. You can hear it and it sounds kind of like there are loose washers rattling in there. It's not a pretty sound. Does anybody have any idea what this could be?

It could be anything from the catalytic converters coming apart, oil filter with a bad ADBV, a loose heat shield, pulley, piston slap, etc. Do you have more details? How long does this noise last or does it ever go away completely?

OP, I used to have an engine noise only when cold. I don't know if it is the same as yours, but check out my thread and listen to Noise #2:

Turns out it was the timing belt auto tensioner that did the trick. Another member also had the same issue and it was also resolved by replacing the timing belt auto tensioner. But then again, there was a different member who thought his noise sounded the same and it turned out to be the idler pulley.

It used to be TSB B07-026, but I can't find that reference in our TSB links at https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/acura-servicenews-bulletins-588838/
You can try calling the Acura dealer for it or looking through each of the 2007 TSBs, which cover multiple subjects.
IIRC, it called for adjustment of the intermediate shaft heat shield, and a replacement kit of several bolts/washers.

mine does it when after the engine runs at least 15 mintues. then if i push the gas it goes away, just spent around 200 to get tenion pully replaced which came in a kit of 2 pullys i think. but now i have a different rattle but sounds the same but is not comin from the upper tenion pully anymore, i cant tell where its comin from. any ideas? could this be the idler pully ? the auto shop could not figure out where this other rattle is comin from they said take it to acura. but i dread that!

For those with a heatshield rattle, I fixed mine the other day with just simple hand tools (out of warranty).
jack it up, remove the plastic underside engine/transmission cover and locate the intermediate shaft and its heat shield. For my particular car, I could get access to the heat shield bolt closest to the driver's side. No need to remove the exhaust J Pipe (?)
Loosen it, and tug the heat shield towards the drivers side. It can slide maybe 1 cm. at most. Re-tighten that bolt to 22 lb/ft. I also stuck a box wrench and was able to retighten the lower of the 3 heatshield bolts as well.
Test drove it and it's as quiet as a lamb.
As far as the noise I had, I almost thought it was some kind of engine pinging or a worn pulley somewhere. It would always happen around 1500 rpm and I'd hear it driving around a parking garage.

Just wanted to update my issue, the effin morons at the dealer when replacing my transmission forgot to put one of the bolts on the exhaust hanger while the other one was hand tight. Also left a bolt on the heat shield about 1/4in out. Im happy I actually looked instead of just trusting them about getting a new heat shield.

2004 Acura TL Engine noise
I have a 2004 TL and i have the same problem when my engine is cold, especially in cold weather I hear an engine rattling noise, and when the engine warms up it goes away. I have had a lot of warrentied parts changed from Acura. Acura said it wasn't the timing belt or tensioner. i'm still trying to figure out what that noise is. for the engine vibrating, I got an answer for that. all the TL's from 2004 and up to maby 2006 shake, it's not a problem to worry about. from my research the 3.2l engine doesn't have a balance shaft, that is why this engine has a vibration at surtain RPM's. I have driven many TL's and they are all the same, However I have not had any engine problems accept for the rattling noise.
