Rattle coming from Drivers door

Just in the last two or so weeks Ive noticed while on the highway at about 70-75mph a slight rattle coming from the drivers door. I dont notice it at any other speed or time.
At first I thought it may be the window but Im just not sure.
Sounds like the rattle coming from inside the door just above the armrest and the sound goes in and out.
Has anyone else experienced this or something like it?
I was just wanting some ideas of what it could be before I go tearing into the door.
Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Ive got an 05 SSM TL.

Ticking, Creaking, Popping, or Rattling From Front Door

If the noise goes away when you lower the window just a bit it may be this issue noted in the Feb 2008 service news article.

I have a rattle in the drivers door. Mine is sporadically present at all speeds and the window trick doesn't seem to fix it. I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow. I'll let you know what I find out.

So took the car in on thursday and what do you know the driver door wouldn't rattle that day. They fixed some other rattles in the car and sent me on my way. Driving to work on friday, the door was rattling like is usually does and I stopped into the dealership, told the manager to get in and showed him the rattle. I have an appointment for first thing monday morning. Will let you know how it turns out.

So, apparently my rattle in my driver door is temperature/humidity dependent, because both on thursday and monday it did not rattle for the dealer. It has gotten a lot warmer where I am though so maybe that is why the rattle hasn't been as prevalent. They told me to bring it in as soon as it rattle so they can try to fix it. Not sure if this is the same rattle your getting, but thats what I got.

Yeah thats a good point. Here in Nashville it has been crazy humid lately and thats when it started rattling.
Any ideas on why it would rattle with increased humidity??

Thanks for the input abacon09

ive had my car in 3 times for the stupid window closed squeaky stupid crap... annoys the hell out of me and they just cant fix it.... have done the TSB and put strips inside the seal. Supposedly re-aligned door too. Sounds like 2 balloons rubbing together. drives me NUTS! they even extended that strip.

Prob is that the inner rubber upper window seal is pushed up against the glass causing the squeal. if i push hard enough on it, it goes away. never had this prob with any other car... wonder if that moleskin would help?? imay try it.

as far as the rattling goes... do you have an a-spec body kit? just after installing mine once on interstate i could hear rattling which sounded like it came from the lower door but turns out where the side skirts are mounted with the push lock plastic tabs it wasnt a tight fit and was slightly loose which gave it room to rattle while traveling at high speeds. i found this out w/o a trip to the dealer. i simply removed the lock tabs and put a piece of thick foam to make it a tighter fit and voila the rattle was gone. my pass side has just started doing this so guess ill be fixing soon. takes 5-10 mins to fix.

let us know what you find out

Looks like I have the same rattle as you do. This is my 3rd winter and I have to deal with the front door rattle. Every time the temps go below 50 degrees, my right side door rattles.

Does anyone have an idea what it is as it is really hard to explain to the dealer? Also, I noticed that after I warm up the car for let’s say 20-30 minutes, the rattle usually fades away or completely goes away. On some occasions, it is more pronounced over bumps etc, but usually can be audible even while driving on a perfectly smooth road.

This is the only time I hate my TL, it is during winter, because I can’t even use the Bluetooth connection cause the rattle is so annoying and gets on my nerves each time I hear it.

Any ideas how to tackle this? Is it a speaker perhaps?

IIRC, there was a TSB on a rattle originating from where the exterior mirror housing is attached to the door.

When I took my car in a few months ago, they said the window regulator was loose and had some play and that was what was causing the rattle. It makes sense that temperature changes would cause the rattle as the glass properties change slightly. Anyways they replaced the window regulator and that seemed to help the problem, but not completely solve it. Occasionally the door/window will still rattle but the problem is less severe and less frequent. Hope that helps.

Did you have any noise when you were closing the door? I do not have any noise whatsoever, so I am not really sure if it is anything in the door or door related at this point.

I guess, I will need to see if I can somehow record the sound and let the dealer listen to it or force them to take the car for an extensive drive till they hear the noises.

This is a quick video I recorded a week or two ago that shows how my car rattles when the temps are below 50.
There are some moments that are silent, but mostly beginning, middle and end shows the annoying rattle.

The video does not reflect the real noise - I can hear the noise even at the medium audio volumes - it is very distinctive and annoying.

Does any have any idea what could be this noise? To me this sounds like somoene is typing on a type-writer.

Thank you

That clicking/clacking noise is similar to the noise a TL sun visor makes when it is vibrating against the clip housing after being pulled out of the clip. It sounded like the noise was coming from the dash center speaker and annoyed the heck out of me for one or two days before I discovered the root of the problem (solution: clip visor back into clip, or swing visor away from clip).

Hope that's your problem!

You know what, I have been going through this same problem the entire time.
At no matter speed I go, my driver side door just rattles like a rattlesnake (literally).
Anyhow, I will come back to this post when people have figured the problem out.
So yeah, you not the only one

I get it on the passenger side. Usually at speeds above 65.

In my experience and couple trips to the dealer the actual glass in either door, specifically the window regulator that has some part in controlling the up down motion of the window is what is rattling. Sounds very familiar to what I had. I finally got the service manager to hear the rattles. My car was rattling one day and i took it to him immediately. Some days it just wouldn't rattle. The sound is particularly annoying because it is transferred through the glass next to the driver/passengers ear. The replaced the window regulator and that has seemed to help. The service manager said the window regulator had excessive play in it. Occasionally I would get some smaller rattles but the dealer never could find anything and actually the problem has seemed to go away. I have also moved to florida so I don't know if that has helped. In my opinion windows shouldn't rattle like this at all, you don't here this sound from similar class cars in other brands or in cheaper cars for that matter.

I also noticed one day that the clicking noise seemed to be greater when there was a strong wind outside, pushing on the outside of the window. This was only after my window regulator was replaced and that day was really windy. prior to the replacement the window would rattle just going over bumps in the road.

Sorry this is long, but hopefully it might help you. After listening to your video I am pretty sure you have what I had. Hard to diagnose and get the dealer to fix though. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I have the exact same problem you are describing, wish your video was still up to confirm.

It's only when the temperature is in the 40's or low 50's. Beyond bizarre, but also beyond annoying.

WHAT THE HELL!? Does anyone know the TSB I was referencing? I remember finding one that specifically mentioned my problem, and now I cannot find it anywhere.

EDIT: Found it! Was referencing this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=588838
