Exclamation PROBLEM!! VSA & Caution light!!!

This is about the 4th time I am experiencing this problem.

Usually when I drive for over 20 minutes or so the car would jerk / pull to the side and it feels like I am downshifting. I have a 2004 TL / Auto / Navi and when this happens the CAUTION LIGHT ! and the VSA light on the dash both turn on after this happens.

Once I turn the car off and turn it back on the lights dissapear.

im not quite sure what to expect. I wont be able to bring it to Acura for a few days / weeks. Should I not drive the car?? what could it be??

has anybody experienced this?? if so what was the solution?? how expensive could this be?? and finally is it covered under extended certified warrenty????????

Thank you!!!!

covered... definitely... as long as you dont have new suspension or wheels.. they might bust your balls over that....

could be a speed sensor or VSA module

My car goes in Tuesday for that very thing. Started doing it once a month or so and now does pretty much every day. But I haven't noticed any difference drivability wise.

I wonder if this is going to be the new gen3 trans failure symptom?
Gen2 thread on trany failure has some great descriptions of the various failures.

To the DEALER IMMEDIATLY
Call them and talk with the service MANAGER, ask for a tow truck since it could be
something that breaks an internal gear and the wheels stop turning, or downshifts into 2nd on the freeway all by itself-
if you're expecting it, you can deal with it, but its usually very exciting for the person tailgating you at then time~~

Exclamation

Does anybody have any idea what it could be??

it happened again today while I was going 35mph on my way to work...im getting a little worried because it is happening more frequently now.

it is a quick pull, and feels like the car just downshifted than resumes back to speed.

any ideas??

I really hope this is covered under warrenty along with a rental of some sort.

I took my car in on monday morning, it is now Wednesday. They called me on Monday evening saying that when the connected the car to the computer they found some error codes, although could not pin point the exact problem and I have not heard from them since.

I dropped off my 2004 TL w/ Navi, and they have be a brand new 08 TL w/ Navi with only 4k Miles. No complaints over here.

Anybody have any ideas what this could be???

They are running test and talking with the corp tech line to figure it out, or have ordered a part and waiting on it.
No news is good news right now- enjoy the loaner

Here's a LINK to a service bulletin showing the VSA troubleshooting codes and what they mean.

One wag is the yaw sensor. The car thought the vechicle was turning when you had the wheel straight, so it activated VSA to get you back what it thought was straight.

Alright, so I got my car back and they said something about the wheel sensors...he didnt explain too much. Im a little weary about what they actually did...

It usually happens every other day so I will continue to drive and see if it is fixed or not....

ill miss the 08 TL loaner....

thanx for all the info!

hopeful - VSA & Caution light fix

Had the exact problem that has been discussed. My dealer in Atlanta (Nalley) provided me with a loaner and ordered a yaw sensor. I have not had any issues for four days since the sensor was replaced. I had all the symptoms discussed in earlier post...

I took my car back in because I had the same problem, they just called and stated it was the YAW sensor as well. I am fully covered in warrenty, but my serivce rep states the YAW sensor was not covered.

how much did you pay????

he stated the part was 500 some, and with service and taxes and I am looking at $800 more or less.

WHAT GIVES!?!?!?!

I got this car less than 1yr ago!

is there any specific reason for this to happen??

One last thing, I have noticed that my center consol expecially near the cup holder on the side gets very hot to touch. could this have anything to do with the sensor going bad?? the service manager said the sensor is located in the center consol.

THANK YOU!!!

Why would the yaw sensor not be covered by the warranty?!
It's not a normal wear item. Check the service manager, then Acura Client Services if the dealer insists the yaw sensor is not covered.

BTW, check your right side heat settings when in "dual" mode for the climate control- a mistaken setting the only reason I've heard for excessive heat in the console area thus far.

That is the problem of talking with Service WRITERS or Advisors
They often are just salesman of car repairs and dont look things up in the computer, dont know the basic and specific warranty of every acura ever made, OR they are trying to make a buck by selling you something outragous for $800

The Service MANAGER is the only person to ever talk with , and now since this happened- they will give you a direct phone number to the manager for all future appointments or questions.
Negative comments on surveys, and calls to Acuracare, get noted and discussed by Corp- that effects the bonus pay of the managers and writers/advisors
Positive comment likewise are discussed and rewarded

Some of the problems with the new Traction system are still being discovered and worked out- so it may take a few tries and parts as acura learns whats happening. Its all covered by warranty and you get the free loaner car- they get a car to try fixes on...seems fair to me.

I have a 2005 TL NBPwith Navi. It has only 38K on it. So, my yaw sensor was covered under warranty. The dealer missed it on the first pass, and I had to bring the car back. They provided me with an 08 TL loaner as well. I noticed that everything in my console had been removed when I picked the car up, so that supports the earlier post.

I have not had the issue after a week now now. I hope this helps the rest of you.
