P/S Pump (Tried both O rings)
P/S Pump (Tried both O rings)
Hey guys. I'm sure there are a couple other threads about the noise coming from the Power Steering Pump and Belt, but I wanted to really try to get to the bottom of this. I have already replaced both O rings from the P/S pump, and drained the fluid and refilled it (by jacking up the front of the car while turning the wheel multiple times with the car turned off). Still no luck. Also, like in most cases, the whiney noise is loudER when I turn the wheel. And yes, there are bubbles in the reservoir when doing so. The cap was even leaking out fluid because there was apparently so much air inside.
Does this apply to any of you guys in these winter conditions? If so, I could use your input. Thanks for reading.

I have not yet.. and stumbled upon rockstar's thread that is garaged: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/diy-105-power-steering-pump-overhaul-pics-sm-scans-841134/

Hey Tannon,
Yeah, I'm having the same problem. My power steering doesn't really whine, but there is this strong air seeping noise I keep hearing by the PS inlet, and it is driving me crazy. It could be the serp belt, but I haven't taken it off yet to check. I have replaced the PS fluid and replaced the inlet o-ring. But that didn't fix it.
I look forward to hearing what you find out.

P/S Pump noise has been fixed! I rebuilt the interior seals, and bled the remaining fluid. Rockstar's thread was a big help. I have to say, though, I believe #16 that he labeled was the culprit. I replaced all O rings, but this particular one was very noticeable that it needed a change. It was very flat and worn. After replacing, the noise has disappeared. Boomshakalaka. Hope this helps anyone with potential, similar issues.
I wanted to chime in on this and ask a quick question, if you don't mind. I've been coming across the same issue and I've changed the top o-ring but how and what particular tool/method did you use to be able to get to the lower o-ring?

There is a video on youtube that shows you how to get to it. But, in my case, I replaced that O ring and it did not solve my issue. It doesn't hurt to try though. There was an O ring inside my Pump that was very worn. After replacing, steering is very smooth and noise is gone. Hope this helps.
Gchild - I just did this two days ago using Majofo's great write-up: (https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=754586P) Took me 20 minutes - 5 of which was wrapping the belt in paper towels. Replaced the lower o-ring with the orange 91345-RDA-A01. Pain in the ass to get to that bolt. I tried both a tiny socket and a ratcheting wrench - no luck. Not enough clearance. Ended up using my tiniest 10mm box-end wrench. Even that required me to get in there with both hands to make sure I had positive contact on the bolt head (the power steering belt pulley gets in the way, even with a bent-end wrench). You'll only have about 1" of travel - so it will take many turns to extract the bolt. And I recommend filing the space underneath the bolt with paper towels to both catch the fluid (not much) and the bolt, should it drop. (Pro-tip: Also remove the plastic engine cover. It's got two flat head screw-clips up front and pressure posts in the back. It will give you greatly increased visibility and access) Once it's out the replacement was very easy and re installation was simple. Just take heed not to torque the bolt down too much. It's only 8lb/ft. Great fix that cost me $1.75 and saved my sanity - I hated hearing the car make that horrendous whine/groan in the mornings... Instant fix with blissful silence realized the very next day. Good luck!
I found this thread, bought the O-Ring and it took me 10 minutes. My 2006 TL is now nice and quiet. https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/diy-105-power-steering-whine-fix-754586/
