that happened in my old legend with a regular bottle of water. the seat literally had a huge hole down to the padding in the shape of the water bottle.

Yep - you're on to something there. When was the last service appointment?? Those guys are carrying wrenches and screwdrivers and such in their pants (ie: back pockets) and could've easily jumped in your car, even momentarily, without thinking about it. Clearly its abrasion of some sort - someone had something in their back pocket.

Definitely check with the dealer. Leather does not melt. Either the hide had a defect or something between you and seat scratched it. It is difficult to get perfect hides and this one may have had an abrasion under the finish. My experience on this type of issue (easily worn out carpet - years ago) was resolved by the dealer, thought the dealer noted they would only fix it once.

I'm having a hard time believing that's leather. Are you pulling our collective chain? Leather's not some kind of polymer that can "melt."

This is a good theory. The mechanics are seldom careful about what they bring into the car and how they treat your seats.

Actually, I was thinking about buying a cheap fabric or neoprene seat cover for whenever I bring my car into the shop.

Faded color?

Whats with the large area of whiteness around the damaged part? It looks like all the color faded, or was rubbed off. Perhaps some chemicals? Were you with your friend when he drove it?

There's a color coating over the leather that's synthetic. That's probably what melted. On that note, the coating could have also smeared after coming in contact with some chemical or solvent.

Yes there is a coating, and it can be restored. If Acura accepts it as theirs to fix, that is where they will go - to a leatyher specialist.

Here is a good source for everything you need to make or break your case:

What does the surface of that damaged area feel like? Leather or a rubbery/plastic finish? As said in previous posts, leather does not melt like that! Without seeing the seat when it was new, it looks to me like there could have been some previous damage that someone tried to repair. And now with some normal wear and tear, the lousy patch job is failing and smudging. Just a thought.

Wow..that looks pretty bad, but like the other guys said, leather doesn't melt, it burns. If Acura won't warranty the leather, I'm sure you can purchase another seat cushion leather hide, and either do it yourself, or take it to an interior shop to have the hide replaced. I'm not sure of the cost, but buying anything from Acura is going to be expensive. I'd keep trying to get them to warranty the damage...I mean.....under normal use...this just shouldn't happen to leather. If you dealer won't help you, try another dealer, then call up the factory rep...send him the pictures...explain what you did and didn't do..and go from there. Good Luck!!

I don't think you can fix that unless you get new leather seats, btw it looks like gum squished in

I would suggest, you take the leather off the cushion and see what area is worse (top or bottom)? If it is bottom then you know its the heaters..if the top then you are screwed(SORRY!!).

That is a warranty issue. They should fix that at the dealer ship... The inside of your car get amazingly hot in those 100+days in the summer. There is no reason for the seat to do that...
