Oil Leaking from AC Compressor?

Hi All,

Noticed small amount of clear oil (4 inch square) under car. Checked the dipstick, since I use Mobil 1 and no problem.

Friend suggested that my AC compressor could be leaking oil. AC seems to be working ok, but it won't soon with the AZ heat.

I have 94,000 miles on my '05 - any ideas / fixes?

Thanks in advance,

Dafried

Take a look at the power steering. You won't see any oil dripping from the compressor. If you did, the compressor would be a gonner and the A/C wouldn't operate.

Get the car up in the air and take a look directly above the area where the oil spot was located.

Need more info.. like location in reference to engine. PICS!

Was it really oil / lubricant? color? smell?

Get under the car and look for leaks / signs of leak under the case and tranny case. Turbonut is right.. if the AC compressor leaked it would be shot.

refrigerant oil normally sticks to something like a hose or something on the car itself, I have never seen it get all the way to the ground
