Clicking noise when turning

My TL will sometime make a clicking noise when it is down in the 30 deg. F range while the car is still cold. Once the car warms up the noise seems to go away. I think its the CV joint, but can anyone chime in here with some experience? is it anything I should be concerned with or that I should replace? Thanks!

Classic symptom of worn outer CV joint. When turned, the balls move around inside their worn cage and thus the clicking sound. They don't usually fail to the point of the vehicle being not driveable, but will continue to get worse with time and mileage.

Hey I noticed this the other night, when I made left turns there would be a light clicking noise that happened intermittently the entire drive home. Since then I have not heard the noise again.

My car only has approx. 4600 miles on it though...

Should I be concerned? I know if I tell the dealer about it he's just going to say he can't reproduce the problem..

Try it in reverse with the wheels turned, it should be worse if it's a CV joint. Usually the joints are good for 100K plus, but there other items eg brakes that can casue that sound.
When it happens, just apply the brakes slightly to see if it stops.

I have the same problem and I started noticing it when teh temp was -40 celsius. Now that its warmer I can't hear it but I will get it looked at when I get my suspension installed in a week or 2. I will post in here what my mechanic says if noone else does

Cold temps (0 degrees) cause the boot grease to stiffen which could be the reason for the clicking. Once the boot grease raises temp to operational spec the clicking will go away. From my research, most boot grease is rated for high temps.. but not low temps. If you notice this all the time at full lock turns either left / right going forward and reverse.. you have the symptoms of a failing cv joint.. check the boot for tears / cracks / leaking grease. It may also be the hub bearings but haven't heard about too many hub bearing failures for the 3G TL.

It sounds to me like CV boot/joints, as well.

well if it is CV boot/joints, how expensive is this to fix. Parts and how much labor is involved in this?

Think water..
Room temp - liquid..
0 degrees C - ICE..
As the grease warms up it softens.. remember it's meant for high temp apps not low temp.

You mean the black wood trim? or just black trim? Have you tried a sharpie? lol.. try searching the threads or posting a new thread but in the right forum topic.

I haven't seen a pure black trim.. I know of the black wood kit and the dark carbon fiber kit.. You might want to to think of vinyl overlay. http://www.decalfx.com/vinyl_sheets.html

I "think" I have the same problem. My engine makes a really loud sound, kind of like an electric car when I start it up after a long time in parked, regardless if its cold or not. It goes away though after 5-10 minutes of driving.

That's not your CV joints / driveshafts.. that's more than likely your power steering pump. You probably have the same problem that many like myself have encountered. The inlet to the power steering pump is letting in air. Solution.. new o-ring ($0.60).. 10 sheets of shop towels, 10mm ratchet & 5 mins.. done deal. The power steering only seeps in air in cold temps.

A decent way to check is to start it up in the morning when it's below 50F.. If it's making noise near the drive belt.. open the top of the power steering fluid reservoir and check to see if air bubbles are forming at the top.. you have found your problem.

The hardened CV boot grease / bad CV joint symptom occurs only on full lock turns at low speeds is when you'll notice it.. it's not loud.. just a creaking / clicking..
