Oil Change
5w-30 stays 'thicker' at operating temp than 5w-20. The first half is a viscosity rating for cold operation and the second is a rating for warm temp.
a thinner oil will be better for colder climates, while a 30 weight will be better for hotter climates

Good i found this thread. I have a bit of a dilemma. I currently use Gastrol Edge 5w30 synthetic, the problem is that i have a whole bottle with 3 QTZ left which means i need an extra 1.5 QTZ. Would it be fine if i can probly mix the remaining of the 1.5 QTZ with Mobil 1 since i couldn't find small bottles for the Gastrol Edge. Please enlighten me, first time doing my own oil change

You can mix weights and brands. I would go with a good 5w-30 in 90% of the situations in North America. In really cold areas or if you do mostly short trips, a 5w-20 might be for you. Just remember these engines spec'd a 30wt years ago with no changes to the bottom end since then so don't be afraid of the 30wt oils.
There's a ton of info on oil weights and brands around here if you search.
