I don't even use "Auto" anymore. I turn off the AC, because it comes on and off so frequently, and every time it comes on, it makes a loud clunk. Is that normal? It still works; cold air comes out.

My car makes a clicking sound, not too loud, but perceptible when stopped and idling. I don't notice it while driving.

Clunk is probably just the clutch engaging.

clunk can be a bad compressor clutch, failing compressor or a bad side engine mount.

I only get a clunk on the first engagement of the day. After that it is fairly smooth.
