Hi everyone, I recently got this project 05 TL 6 speed but it doesn't start. It was running fine but then it just wouldn't start one day. Below is a video of what it does, this with a battery jumper connected.
I know it's limited info but i'd like to know what I should start with first. Here are some pics of the engine bay, there's a wire that goes into the firewall that I just don't know what it's for.
The basics need to be checked. They are, spark, fuel, air, and compression. Take a spark plug out and put a screwdriver into the coil. Hold the metal part of the crew driver near a bolt on the manifold. Have someone crank it over. Is there a strong spark from the screwdriver to the bolt? If not, you aren’t getting spark. If there is, check for fuel. You can hook up a fuel pressure gauge at the fuel rail to check for pressure. There’s typically a schrader valve(think bicycle tire) that you can press in at the rail to see if fuel comes out(not the most reliable test). Or you can spray a bit of starting fluid into the throttle body and try to start it. If it starts, your problem is fuel related. Air is self explanatory. There should be no blockage on the filter and there should be not broken or cracked hoses. You might also have a faulty sensor causing the no start. Are there any check engine lights on? If so, grab a code reader and scan it for codes. Report back with your findings.
Alright, I actually got it to start, turns out the keys I had were not programmed, I got the original set of keys and it turned on. The issue it has is rough idle and the following codes.
Any idea of what it could be, has new sparkplugs, wondering if it's electrical?
Have you tried replacing the + battery cable? At this age, it may be corroded internally where you can't see not allowing full cranking juice through. I had a similar starting problem a few years ago and that's what it turned out to be.

I have to give you all the whole story before the update though. I recently started working with a friend of mine who owns a dealership, when I came in on the first day, I saw this super nice TL that was parked out back, just covered in dust, I asked my friend "yo!, whats up with this car" and he said that the clutch had been replaced (so it was a 6 speed) but the car had started misfiring and then it wouldn't start but hadn't gotten around to taking it to the mechanic. So... I bargained a little with him and he said I could have it at a really low price if I got it running and also fixed another TL that has a melted coil pack. So I posted this thread and was able to get it running how it was idling rough, checked the coils, changed injectors (had spares laying around), and finally did a compression test yesterday... 4 cylinders are between 95-120 and the other 2 are showing 240-260, I told him about it and he said I don't need to keep the car if I don't want so we'll be replacing the engine on it and selling it on the lot instead. Bummer
